Jimmy Larouche

Writer and director Jimmy Larouche was never satisfied adhering to just one genre, or even one medium. As director, writer, producer, and editor, Larouche developed short films and long, bouncing between five-minute pieces like "Elise" and feature-length projects including "The Scar" (2012) and "Antoine et Marie" (2014). Throughout his body of work, Larouche tapped readily into the realms of horror, fantasy, and drama. Jimmy Larouche began his career helming short-form movies, one of the earliest of which was the macabre but romantic fantasy project "Elise" (2007). The filmmaker's proclivity toward both the otherworldly and the sentimental revealed in his writing and direction of the short film, which saw a pair of deceased lovers rising from their graves to share one final dance. From there, Larouche moved to feature direction. His formal debut came with "The Scar" (2012), which he also wrote and produced. Larouche used the film, a psychological thriller centered on the culture of small-town hockey, to display his knack for brutal intensity onscreen. Larouche kept on with short projects even after his feature debut, writing and directing "Un film de Cédrick Lavoie" (2013). Next, he returned once more to themes of violence and emotional trauma first showcased in "The Scar," with the film "Antoine et Marie" (2014). Tackling issues like romance, sexual violence, and rape, the movie allowed for another explication of Larouche's tendency toward the most delicate and volatile of subject matters.
