Began his career as an assistant art director on Nicholas Roeg's "Bad Timing" (1980) and soon graduated to full-fledged production designer. Beard has contributed to such visually stylized films as Roeg's "Eureka" (1983), Terry Gilliam's "Brazil" (1985) and Julien Temple's "Absolute Beginners" (1986), as well as Martin Scorsese's "The Last Temptation of Christ" (1988).
