Jorge Ramos

Jorge Ramos was one of the biggest newscasters in the Hispanic TV world and was named one of the most influential figures in the United States by "Time" and "Newsweek." Ramos was born on March 16, 1958 in Mexico City, Mexico as Jorge Ramos Avalos. Growing up in the Mexican suburbs, Ramos attended the Universidad Iberoamericana in Mexico City where he majored in communications and went on to earn a master's degree in international studies at the University of Miami. Ramos worked on Mexican station XEW-TV's local news show "60 Minutos" (1978) as a reporter until quitting after a story he produced that was critical of the Mexican government was censored. In 1988, Ramos became one of the anchors for "Noticiero Univision" (1981), a daily evening newscast highly rated among Spanish-language viewers, but has still found time for plenty of other projects including "Al Punto" (2007), a weekly Sunday Spanish-language public affairs program and "America with Jorge Ramos" (2013), an English-language news magazine. As a respected news anchor whose show regularly beat his English language news competitors, Ramos had the opportunity to interview world leaders such as Barack Obama, George W. Bush, Bill Clinton, George H.W. Bush, Fidel Castro, Daniel Ortega and Hugo Chavez. Ramos became a United States citizen in 2008.
