Kick Gurry
Australian actor Kick Gurry made his name in homegrown films "Looking for Alibrandi" (2000) and "Garage Days" (2002) before becoming a favorite of the Wachowski siblings with roles in "Speed Racer" (2008), "Jupiter Ascending" (2015) and "Sense8" (Netflix, 2015-). Born in Melbourne in 1978, Gurry acquired his 'Kick' nickname from the younger brother who was unable to pronounce his real name, Christopher. After studying Performing Arts at his home town's Wesley College, he landed a two-episode stint in radio station drama "Raw FM" (ABC, 1997-98) and enjoyed one-off appearances in "SeaChange" (ABC, 1998-2000), "Wildside" (ABC, 1997-99) and "State Coroner" (Network Ten, 1997-98). He got his big break when he was cast as troublesome teen Jacob Coote in "Looking for Albrandi" (2000), the big-screen adaptation of Melina Marchetta's young adult novel. Following a blink and you'll miss it role in military satire "Buffalo Soldiers" (2001), Gurry bagged his first lead part, rock band frontman Freddy in "Garage Days," (2002) and enjoyed supporting roles in political thriller "Spartan" (2004) and Johnny Knoxville vehicle "Daltry Calhoun" (2005). After playing Darren for eight episodes of outback drama "The Alice" (Nine Network, 2005), Gurry was cast as Speed's mechanic best friend Sparky in the Wachowski siblings' divisive live-action anime adaptation, "Speed Racer" (2008), forging what would prove to be an enduring working relationship with the directors in the process. Two years later he joined the second season cast of family drama "Tangle" (Showcase, 2009-2012) as dysfunctional brother in law Joe Kovac (Showcase, 2009-2012) and subsequently enjoyed brief spells in dramedy "Offspring" (Network Ten, 2010-) and web series "Cybergeddon" (2012). Gurry then appeared alongside Tom Cruise as Griff in the time-looping sci-fi "Edge of Tomorrow" (2014) before reuniting with the Wachowskis, firstly as Jupiter's cousin Vladie in their much-maligned space opera "Jupiter Ascending" (2015) and then as chemical engineer Puck for four episodes of their ambitious globe-trotting series "Sense8" (Netflix, 2015-). After playing military attache Tom Howard in the satirical "War Machine" (2017), Gurry guested as Marianne's long-distance boyfriend Tag in thirtysomething sitcom "Friends from College" (Netflix, 2017) and was cast as Pete Greene in child abduction drama "Ten Days in the Valley" (ABC, 2017-).
