A veteran of Chicago's legendary improvisational comedy scene, Scott MacArthur logged guest appearances on television for more than a decade before earning his big break as both writer and actor on the Fox sitcom "The Mick" (2017- ). Born Scott Wadsworth MacArthur in 1979, he was raised in the Chicago, Illinois neighborhood of Wrigleyville and studied performance at the American Repertory Theatre at Harvard University and later, the Moscow Art Theatre. Upon return to Illinois, he delved deeply into Chicago's comedy scene, training with both the Second City Conservatory and Improv Olympic. He began working in television in the mid-2000s, appearing in both comedy series like "MADtv" (Fox, 1995-2016) and dramatic fare like "Mad Men" (AMC, 2007-2015) while also creating and appearing in his own short comedy projects through his web site, Barbadon. After nearly a decade of guest work, MacArthur was tapped to join the writing staff of "The Mick," a comedy series created by John and David Chernin and starring Kaitlin Olson of the popular dark comedy "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia" (Fox, 2005- ). MacArthur was subsequently tapped to play Jimmy, the irresponsible, on-again off-again boyfriend of Olson's Mickey, whose new job - taking care of her three ill-mannered niece and nephews - might be his ticket to a comfortable life. The series debuted to positive reviews and ratings in 2017 and was picked up for a second season that same year.
