Stanley Kamel

Stanley Kamel was a versatile character actor best known for his recurring role as psychiatrist Charles Kroger on the acclaimed comedy-drama series "Monk." Kamel was educated at Boston University's prestigious School of Fine Arts and began his career in acting with small roles in off-Broadway plays. After making his TV debut in 1969 with a guest role on the action series "Mission: Impossible," Kamel played Eric Peters on the daytime soap opera "Days of Our Lives," appearing as a series regular between 1972 and 1976. In the 1980s and early '90s, Kamel essayed numerous roles on popular sitcoms and dramas, including the cop drama "Cagney & Lacey," Angela Lansbury's gentle cozy-mystery series "Murder, She Wrote," and the senior-citizen sitcom "The Golden Girls." Kamel landed his most recognized role in 2002 when he joined the cast of the USA Network's critical smash "Monk," playing opposite Tony Shalhoub as the title character's psychiatrist. He died of a heart attack in his Hollywood home in April 2008.
