Tim McGraw became a country superstar in the mid '90s and managed to retain that status thereafter, and together with his wife Faith Hill he formed perhaps the biggest power couple in country music since George and Tammy. McGraw was born May 1, 1967 in Delhi. His father was famed baseball pitcher Frank "Tug" McGraw. He began playing music in college, and eventually quit school to try his luck as a country singer in Nashville. He signed with Curb Records and released his debut single in 1991, and his self-titled debut LP in 1993, but he didn't make much headway until his second album, 1994's Not a Moment Too Soon. The record reached No. 1 on both the pop and country charts, went Platinum six times over, and included two No. 1 country hits: the title track and "Don't Take the Girl." This set the tone for the next 10 years, and his next six albums were all multi-Platinum affairs as well. In 1996 McGraw married country star Faith Hill, and his 1997 duet with her, "It's Your Love," became one of his biggest hits. The two would record several more hit duets in the years to come. They embarked on a tour together in 2007, and in 2017 they recorded an entire album together, The Rest of Our Life. Due to competing lawsuits, McGraw's 11th album, 2012's Emotional Traffic, would mark the end of his long, successful relationship with Curb Records. The shift to Big Machine Records didn't dampen McGraw's career any, as 2013's Two Lanes of Freedom became another No. 1 album, sporting three Top 10 country hits including "Highway Don't Care," a duet with Taylor Swift. Just before starting his second tour with Hill in 2017, the Soul2Soul World Tour, McGraw went public with the news that he had a new record deal in the works with Sony Music Nashville. The aforementioned The Rest of Our Life was the first fruit of that contract.
