Ambitious and visually stunning, Tomorrowland is unfortunately weighted down by uneven storytelling.

Sarah Mirk Bitch Media The much-hyped film itself feels overwhelmingly bland... I hope there are some young girls out there will take heart in seeing a heroic, science-loving teen girl onscreen. For everyone else, can I recommend staying home and reading Ursula Le Guin instead? Jan 28, 2021 Full Review Udita Jhunjhunwala Livemint A futuristic Disney fantasy in a choppy and tiresome narrative. Aug 15, 2019 Full Review Dwight Brown National Newspaper Publishers Association The point of Tomorrowland is to encourage youngsters to think out of the box, stay positive and never give up. It's a sweet and inspirational message buried in a mire of cryptic plotting. Mar 21, 2017 Full Review Don Shanahan Every Movie Has a Lesson Thinly veiled beneath the powerhouse studio running the show, Disney's "Tomorrowland" is your new lightning rod between poignant and preachy. It is, with absolute certainty, an enormous message movie hiding behind a summer blockbuster. Rated: 3/5 Sep 4, 2023 Full Review Josh Larsen LarsenOnFilm A movie about ideas and inventions that has too much of both... Rated: 2/4 Sep 24, 2022 Full Review Keith Garlington Keith & the Movies The story is simply too inconsistent, too uneven, and too flat. Rated: 2/5 Aug 27, 2022 Full Review Read all reviews

Michael T Almost 10 years later, I revisit this movie and I think exactly the same as back then: it's a magnificent tribute to Walt Disney himself, which I'd say is only recognizable if you are, as a person, emotionally in tune with Walt's style. Meaning, for instance: if going to the original Disney parks or watching his original movies is just a mere activity for you, without stopping to think even once about the marvelous prolific creative talent and futuristic mind behind all of it (Walt's mind), then chances are you won't really understand what this movie is about. Many reviews agree that there is an issue with "uneven storytelling". While I got to give that some credit (it happens at certain points), I don't think it was the intention of the director, producer and the movie production team, to make a perfectly balanced big box office hit for years to come. The movie is expressly designed for you to have a "Disney park on steroids" experience (I mean the park is on steroids, not you). It's a delicious, visually bright ride through Disney's entertainment style and optimistic vision of the future. The 1964 New York World's Fair recreation (including the "It's a Small World" display), the different and more advanced animatronics involved in the story, the nice, sleek futuristic city design (inspired on Disney's Tomorrowland visual desgin), all of that is an intentional extraordinary ode to Walt's work and memory. Watching the movie for me everytime, is spending those minutes in a happy time & place (which is exactly the Disney parks' first intention). If you're able to experience it this way, any storytelling "mishaps" will be absolutely forgivable... It's a nice all-audiences movie, for the whole family. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 02/17/25 Full Review Garrett B While it has some dazzling visuals, the movie was very underwhelming. The plot was uneven, some of the acting (particularly Robertson’s) was terrible, and the script felt underdeveloped. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 01/12/25 Full Review Christopher S Everyone needs to see this movie for what it is and not what it could be. In a world where negativity is the norm having a sense of hope is how we survive. Every day we change the world through the smallest of actions and this movie showcases that we all make a different. From the musician to the artist to the scientist to engineer, every positive action is a net gain for all of us. Pushing out toward what we want to see in the world, young or old we make a difference. It starts with a dream and never giving up. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 12/08/24 Full Review Zachary Jacob S As a HUGE fan of Brad Bird, I came in with fairly high expectations. Unfortunately, the movie didn't work for me on a number of levels. I felt that the pacing was off. Quite awkward at times. The actual plot can get confusing. Sometimes it feels like we're being fed too much too fast. The characters and their journey were not very compelling. I didn't really feel I knew any of them well enough to truly care. On a more positive note, I loved the very stylized visuals! It can be quite the spectacle! Also, Michael Giacchino did a good job with the score, like you'd expect! Overall, while this film didn't work for me, I would give it a try if it sounds interesting to you, art is subjective after all, and I hope you can enjoy it more than I did! Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 11/27/24 Full Review Joe E It’s not the absolute greatest movie I’ve ever watched, but i thought it was very entertaining and the visuals are INCREDIBLE. The soundtrack by Michael Giacchino is also insanely good. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 11/10/24 Full Review Korra N Equally whimsical and dark, Tomorrowland is an imaginative and stunning blockbuster that's no where near as heavy-handed with its messaging as folks made it out to be, and yet so wildly relevant today.
