Wenlei Ma The Nightly (AU) The first half of the series has more energy and pep as it morphs into darker tones towards the end and loses steam after a promising start. Jul 28, 2025 Full Review David Opie Empire Magazine You've never met an assassin like Keeley Hawes’ Julie, and for that matter you've never watched a thriller like this either. Come for the cutthroat action and stay for the cutting dynamic at its core. Rated: 4/5 Jul 26, 2025 Full Review Lucy Mangan Guardian It’s so much fun. Hawes is so good, so funny, Highmore so nimble and perfectly pitched and everyone else turning in brilliant performances. Rated: 5/5 Jul 25, 2025 Full Review Pat Stacey Irish Independent The Assassin is terrific fun. It moves like an express train across several locations, including Albania, Libya and London, and is packed with corkscrew twists and enough shady characters to block out the Greek sun. Jul 28, 2025 Full Review Sabrina Barr metro.co.uk It’s Mamma Mia combined with Taken, with a dash of Black Doves thrown in for good measure. Rated: 4/5 Jul 25, 2025 Full Review Emily Baker iNews.co.uk This wannabe James Bond thriller is an insult to Hawes's talents. Rated: 1/5 Jul 25, 2025 Full Review Read all reviews

Jim H One of the worst scripts ever. how do you actually get a job at Amazon Studio? Unfortunately, the mega talented Keeley Hawes is just totally not believable in the role of an agile (she should be) hitwoman. The direction is completely out of her depth. And it's more exciting to watch a hamster in its wheel than this series. (I've only seen two episodes) Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 07/29/25 Full Review Aidan W What was all the fuss about? Strange disconnect between for example the review in The Guardian and the actual thing. How could anyone, especially a professional reviewer, think this amateurish mish mash is any good? Like some of the other audience reviewers here I’ve been looking forward to it and am woefully disappointed. Script: ½ / 10. One single ‘new’ idea - which isn’t that new when you think of eg Mr and Mrs Smith - the unlikely occupation of a mother hitperson - will not hold up the rest of this poorly written, badly plotted and woodenly acted tosh. Acting - even the delightful Keely Hawes - 1/10. Freddie Highmore is plain embarrassing. It’s not my habit to give up on a series; even fairly rubbish ones I tend to sit through to the bitter end. This one, I’m not sure I can be bothered. If it’s on your ‘must watch’ list - delete. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 07/28/25 Full Review karl b Old genre, badly done, Freddie Highmore is doing what Freddie does... not act, repeats being an autistic boy as a 30 year old. The whole cast is stereotypical, from the spoilt son of a high powered businessman looking for approval to the independant daughter too clever for the family and the plot .. Keeley Hawes is totally unbelievable as an assassin, she would be better employed making the tea., this is a shocker. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 07/28/25 Full Review Alan T Looked forward to this but ended up disappointed. Keeley Hawes is a great actress and she does her best in this roll but the interactions between her and son Edward played by Freddie Highmore is awkward and not believable. I thought Freddie played the role of the Good Doctor really well, but there lies the problem. He plays the same character in this and it just doesn’t work to the extent we couldn’t get past the second episode. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 07/28/25 Full Review Nick D This is probably the worst series I have seen in over 60 years. It is an incomprehensible mess. It has very very poor continuity, more plot holes than a Swiss cheese, risible acting & an appalling script. There is not one original idea in the making of this. What the hell was Keeley Hawes thinking? She is usually a brilliant actor but was this made for her to pay her mortgage? Rated 1 out of 5 stars 07/28/25 Full Review Peter B I had been looking forward to watching this show after reading rave reviews from the critics. Hawes is a great actress but has been let down badly by this implausible and badly written non-thriller. It just doesn't make any sense at all and what wit there is is lame and clunky. I wondered if it was funded by the Greek Tourist Board as the locations are the only decent bit. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 07/27/25 Full Review Read all reviews
