Despite its timely subject matter, Collateral Damage is an unexceptional and formulaic action thriller.

The subject matter is timely and relevant, but the attention to action over sincerity dulls the potency of the themes - as any shoot-'em-up Schwarzenegger movie should. Go to Full Review

Straining every muscle not to offend, Collateral Damage counts basic coherence among its own casualties. But it's crystal clear on one point: Taking mercy on the "enemy," women and children included, is for wimps. Go to Full Review

Cork B Nov 29 Last gasp of Arnold's 80s Action movies, and it isn't good. Eyerollingly thin plot with horrible twists. Add to that, Arnold tries to do a more nuanced conflicted role, and when the role calls for a 0.7, Arnold's face kinda contorts before he spits out the inevitable 0 or 1. Arnold was meant to be a brick to smash things, and those are his best roles. This should have had a different lead cast. And John Leguizamo was wasted here. Literally as well :) It wasn't the worst thing I've ever seen - better than just about any Scott Adkins flick, but still a very poor outing for Arnold. P Oct 14 This movie is truly what it is titled according to being a Hollywood movie. I saw this movie at the time of its release and it is clearly not my favorite. The plot and character development could have been a lot better than what is shown in this movie. For the time and era that this movie came out- you can tell that Arnold Schwarzenegger was pretty much wrapping up his career at the time before becoming the Governor of California. I can't really recommend this movie because of the fact that there was a lot about it that would be too much to mention in this review that would not make it worth seeing. 1.5 out of 5 stars- this movie truly is what its title is. See more Phil M Aug 21 Absolute gobshite. Here's the end so you don't have to suffer through it. Arnies wife and kid are killed by terrorists, Arnie befriends the terrorists deaf child, kills the terrorists and then in the closing scene gets a big hug from that same child. I want my 1hr 48 minutes back See more Aaron B Aug 15 Collateral Damage doesn't deserve the abysmal review scores it has. I mean... sub 50% makes sense. But not this bad. It's a decent thriller, despite a few weaknesses... like Schwarzenegger's acting and enunciation, a few weak supporting actors, and some less than stellar effects shots. But these are all weaknesses people are willing to overlook in other Schwarzenegger films, so I'm left trying to guess why the hate? Maybe people weren't in the mood for terrorists blowing up buildings 5 months after 911? Or maybe others didn't like the fact that the terrorists were Columbians (who have never carried out an attack on U.S. soil) instead of Islamists? Maybe people wanted 1980s Arnold, while he was now in his 50's and trying to figure out what kind of movies he could still pull off... something a little less superhuman... a thriller that could have worked with any number of actors. Andy Davis never captured the magic of The Fugitive before or since, but he's a decent director. So I'm unapologetically going with 2.5 stars.
