      Critics Consensus

7 Days in Entebbe has a worthy story to tell, but loses sight of its most compelling elements in a dull dramatization of riveting real-life events.

Dru S Amazing, harrowing feat no one would believe Israel would ever be able to do this!! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 10/29/23 Full Review Jack L The decision to tell this story squarely from the terrorists' perspective unfortunately robs this film of any tension it may otherwise have had. Establishing the hijackers as decent and soft, the audience is immediately reassured that none of the hijackers are going to get killed. To make matters worse, the hostages are relegated to anonymous extras, they're never given identities or personalities, making it hard as a viewer to truly invest in them and care about their plight. The result is a painfully dull experience. The real life story is a feat of planning, yet the film skirts around the operational planning and depicts the Israeli high command as bland and unlikeable. Even when the actual raid gets underway, the action is interrupted by a bizarre decision to hand a significant amount of screen time over an otherwise irrelevant dancer amd her theatre performance. Why on earth the writers didnt give her substantial screen time to one of the hostages I have no idea. Only two Israeli soldiers are anything more than extras and neither are particularly fleshed out. Overrall, a disappointingly missed opportunity that doesnt even get all the facts right. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 10/22/23 Full Review Tatyana V So these people kidnapped over 200 people off a plane, put their lives in jeopardy, civilians who were Jewish, their families including children and Holocaust survivors - and we are supposed to be sympathetic when they are killed in a hail of gunfire?! I mean, I am glad that two German nationals had some ethical struggle kidnapping Jewish people and threatening their lives when some of them still had number tattoos from the camps, but I don't really think this exonerates them. It also bothered me how little time was spent on character development of the kidnapped victims and how much time was spent trying to explain away why these people were ok with hauling women and children into a room in Uganda and prepare to shoot them. I was also offended at the blank statement at the end that 4 Israelis died and 42 Ugandan soldiers died. You don't want to get killed? Don't kidnap people and hold them for ransom. Don't stand guard duty over those who do. It's that simple! Rated 2 out of 5 stars 10/17/23 Full Review Yonina N So many historic inaccuracies. The movie makes the terrorists seem like humanitarian good guys while they were inhumane and terrorists Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 09/09/23 Full Review Sam K This movie deeply disappoints in its portrayal and is a disgrace the hostages, Israel, and the Jewish people. It attempts to depict the German terrorists as humane, disregarding the atrocities they committed. Moreover, it unfairly portrays Israel as aggressors, attacking the West Bank and Gaza, when in reality, Israel is known for its humane values in the Middle East. Such misrepresentation only adds to the pain and suffering endured by the hostages and undermines the true historical events. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 08/02/23 Full Review Deedee Anderson A Who thought that depicting the hijacking of the Air France flight in 1976 from the point of view of the hijackers was a good idea? Absurd. Not to mention the film is just slow. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 07/03/23 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating

      J. R. Jones Chicago Reader Portuguese action director José Padilha (Elite Squad) generates a hurtling momentum, especially as the raid takes shape, but his dialogue scenes are indifferently staged. Mar 9, 2020 Full Review Tara Brady Irish Times The war-room negotiations are tautly realised. Bruhl and Pike are excellent, as ever... Still, it's hard to see who the film is for. Rated: 3/5 May 18, 2018 Full Review Matthew Norman London Evening Standard The most discernible terror comes not from the hostages huddled in the terminal, who are little more than extras, but from the sense of a director too paralysed by the fear of causing offence to take a perspective.
