Audience Member Very inspring look back at recent environmental movement history. Would have liked a bit more recent solution oriented material, ie: what's being done in solar, wind, waste management, etc Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/11/23 Full Review Audience Member Excellent history of the environmental movement and some of the disasters and mistakes which led to it. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/10/23 Full Review Audience Member This was a moving and inspiring film. Very well done, it traces the environmental movement's shift from conservation to environmental justice and climate activism. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/15/23 Full Review Audience Member It can only be considered a cliff notes version of the history of the environmental movement, but it did bring back some childhood memories I personally had of watching the emergence of the movement on our nightly news in the hinterland. I even learned a few tidbits about the early beginnings of the environmental movement beyond the standard Muir/Roosevelt dichotomy. A huge subject and I think talking about the movement rather than the issues was an excellent call...however taking a Ken Burns type direction as originally planned and delved into the entire breadth of this movement probably would have been a better choice than taking this cliff notes version. As for take home message...the movie clearly captures, probably unintentionally, the misguided direction taken by the environmental movement when it decided to merge with the social justice movement. Then environmentalism became all about people....just like the movie does. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/30/23 Full Review Audience Member If anyone wants to inspire their friends to act to fight against climate change, this is the film to show. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/05/23 Full Review Audience Member ONe of the best movies of they year. I am so glad I got tos ee it. Bilge Ebiri Spirituality & Health The results are beautiful, fascinating, and, understandably, messy. Not all of these people want the same thing, and sometimes their needs conflict with one another. Mar 24, 2020 Full Review Loren King Boston Globe Comprehensively tackles a sprawling subject and keeps things loose and lively. Rated: 3.5/4 Apr 18, 2013 Full Review Walter V. Addiego San Francisco Chronicle It's a decent overview of the subject, but the film's presentation is unexceptional, and it never hints that there is reasoned opposition to the views it advocates. Rated: 2/4 Mar 15, 2013 Full Review John Beifuss Commercial Appeal (Memphis, TN) Not another documentary expos of a particular disaster or eco-crime but a history of the environmental movement itself, motivated by the idea that 'our industrial civilization has grown so powerful that it threatens the natural world...' Rated: 3/4 Feb 24, 2014 Full Review Jamie S. Rich Oregonian Manages to make the larger cause relatable by focusing on the individual stories of conservationist leaders and radical activists Rated: 3/5 Oct 10, 2013 Full Review Gerald Peary Arts Fuse I agree totally with its politics while abhorring its unimaginative political correctness.
