Clyde Gilmour Maclean's Magazine The nimble amiability of Ray Bolger and the Gallic drollery of Claude Dauphin combine with some pleasant singing by Doris Day to make this a diverting slaphappy musical... deke p 1952 ! Beautiful, enchanting, talented DORIS DAY absolutely shines! & her with the "Scarecrow" RAY BOLGER are the unlikely couple in this Rom-Com song & dance musical. Both excellent dancers. This is a classic, imho. A lot of it is on a cruise ship, then Paris, of course. "Slaphappy" is an adjective another reviewer used to describe it. Parts of it may strike some as dated & silly, of course, but this was 1952. Never saw before 12.27.2021 on The MOVIE Channel 13.3. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 03/30/23 Full Review Audience Member I enjoyed it, especially as a historic artefact. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/20/23 Full Review Audience Member A jolly but very light musical comedy that can get somewhat farcical in places. A decent time waster. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 02/06/23 Full Review Audience Member I'm not a big fan of musicals and this is a pretty "musical" of musical. Doris Day is a chorus girl who falls for diplomat Ray Bolger in Paris. They're a pretty unlikely couple and Bolger is hardly Rock Hudson. There are some good songs in the film, but overall it didn't really grab me. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 01/31/23 Full Review Audience Member Not Doris Day's best movie. It's funny at times but has no strong structure to keep this movie held up high. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 01/22/23 Full Review Audience Member this movie is a classic. I loved it. They don't make movies like this anymore. The music and color are fantastic. It's just a fun movie. and was written beautifully.
