A bittersweet romp about new beginnings with another sparkling turn by Renée Zellweger, Mad About the Boy gracefully closes the book on Bridget Jones' diary.

I found Mad About the Boy tonally strange, and it left me feeling curiously depressed. Go to Full Review

Underneath pratfalls and slapstick moments is a more mature, poignant movie about moving on after the devastating loss of a loved one. Go to Full Review

Despite all the repeated gags and such, it’s charming—and more emotionally vulnerable than many of its counterparts. Go to Full Review

the film has really let these characters grow into their mature selves. Jones is finally allowed to not be consumed by frivolity, and instead allow the gravity of the film to drive her choices. It is a grown up Bridget Jones. Go to Full Review

As expected, no one doubts the ultimate romantic pairing and fortunately dalliances allow for a ridiculously appealing wet shirt scene. Go to Full Review

Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy is the perfect example of how to make an excellent sequel that remains true to the original material while also innovating it for the audience who might look for a deeper reflection on these very important themes Go to Full Review

Robert N @chobiFarts 16h Mad about the boy? More like mad that I wasted a couple hours of my precious life watching this empty mid life crisis fantasy. Toy boys and cheap gags. Alright Bridget Ive seen you slip over three times already, seeing it again makes me want to stick my head in an oven, not laugh. I’m going to go read neitsche See more Thomas W @Misterw18005 Jan 4 Renee Zellweger's performance normally has me splitting my sides, but this movie elicited a few smiles at best. I don't know what was wrong with me; I just felt numb to the humour, but on the more positive side, the plot was exquisite. Although they killed off two of the most beloved people in Bridget's life (which these days is done when either the actor passes or is recast so badly it's nigh-immediately warranted), this added a firm integrity to the storyline and contributed to the growth of Bridget's children without just feeding the audience on poorly-written laughs and recycled jokes. I feel the primary strength of this movie is that it causes its viewers to feel an immensely heavy emotional weight through the masterfully-convincing, heartfelt dialogue between the actors and their life-like reactions. See more Muddy C @MuddyC Dec 7 I have watched one of the worst so called movies in my lifetime. I am depressed after it. I usually have more to say but I really really can't say anything more about this. See more R J Nov 28 Absolute bollocks. Ruined a perfectly good story. Jones is a pathetic character (Zellweger is a shadow of herself). And I know a woman Shouldn’t condemn another woman for her choice to manipulate her face, but…WTF!!?? See more Christina F Nov 17 Don't waste 2 hours of your time watching this silly, boring 😴 film. Even Emma Thompson couldn't save it. See more Louise K Nov 8 The fourth instalment was a huge disappointment. I have loved the three previous movies, because I found Bridget endearing, vulnerable and unique. In this movie, Mad about the Boy, I didn't see her usual lovability shine through. I found the relationship with Rockster, oh please, what a name, so unconvincing. The dive into the pool to rescue a dog, who was fine, was gratuitous. But it gave the opportunity for all the women in the scene to ogle at him, like they've never seen a bare chest before. I thought Isla Fischer in one of the earlier scenes confusing. Why have her in there if we never see her again, there was no arc or engagement with the character at all. Daniel Cleaver dating 20 year olds, come on. He's a player, but don't treat him like a cartoon character. The scene where Rockster tries to make it up to Bridget, so ridiculous, and as if a young man would say all of that in a workplace, in front of colleagues. The 2 scenes which I thought were good were the scene when she's injected stuff into her lips and is with Emma Thompson, and when she thanks Mr Walliker for helping her son to come out and sing his dad's song. I had been hanging out for this movie on Netflix, but was really disappointed. See more Read all reviews
