A bittersweet romp about new beginnings with another sparkling turn by Renée Zellweger, Mad About the Boy gracefully closes the book on Bridget Jones' diary.

Amy Amatangelo Tellyvisions Underneath pratfalls and slapstick moments is a more mature, poignant movie about moving on after the devastating loss of a loved one. Jul 25, 2025 Full Review Maxwell Rabb Chicago Reader Despite all the repeated gags and such, it’s charming—and more emotionally vulnerable than many of its counterparts. Feb 20, 2025 Full Review Mark Kermode Kermode and Mayo's Take (YouTube) It's scrappy. It plays like a series of sketches and some of them work better than others... [but] it settles down into something which is actually about grief. Feb 19, 2025 Full Review Clotilde Chinnici The People's Movies Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy is the perfect example of how to make an excellent sequel that remains true to the original material while also innovating it for the audience who might look for a deeper reflection on these very important themes Rated: 4/5 Aug 7, 2025 Full Review Marissa Hill Shade Studios Zellweger brings a wonderful mix of vulnerability, wit, and self-deprecation to the role, ensuring that Bridget remains the charming and relatable character audiences adore. Jul 30, 2025 Full Review Liselotte Vanophem Geek Vibes Nation While the Bridget Jones franchise could have easily ended after three films, Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy is precisely the sequel we needed without realizing it. George B We hired this film and therefore felt obliged to try and watch it. We watched through gritted teeth, willing on the end. Predictable, unfunny, uncreative to the point of aesthetic nausea. Even the slapstick was entirely without a laugh. The gurning faces, fake bonhomie and clichéd lines spouted by the actors were breathtakingly awful. Nothing warming, moving or passionate, just piano chords informing the audience that the scene was meant to be emotional. Never ever again. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 08/15/25 Full Review Dilyana T An exciting experience of going up with exaggeration surges and sliding down to the cynical realities. Not a second of boredom thanks to the powerful mature talents - Renee Zellweger gripping your mind, forcing herself into your senses in the most gentle, beautiful, blond way; Hue Grant, greyed, but agreeably in the context of his enormous legacy to the industry, making you wonder he’s projecting his own bearing into the character’s and you can’t help but picturing him behaving, speaking, gesturing the same way in real life situations. Sweet and bitter truths for a laugh or two and a pang of sadness, but entirely plausible in our cynical world. And Leo Woodall… the new Chris Pine, can’t wait to see his evolution to Colin Firth’s benchmark. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 08/14/25 Full Review Helen J I loved it! I love all the Bridget Jones movies. I hope there will be another one. Maybe Bridget will get married again. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 08/13/25 Full Review ryan P A nice way to end the film series but if you were judging it as a stand alone film it unfortunately fails. Too much sadness to be classed as a “romcom” It’s always going to be impossible to top the first and original film which was a masterpiece. One bonus is the cinematography of London was great. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 08/10/25 Full Review David K Nostalgic and predictably feelgood ending to the film series. Mercifully better than the Edge of Reason, but nowhere near as good as the original outing. Time to stop now. Please. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 08/05/25 Full Review Paul J Perfect for a Sunday night in and exceeded my expectations. Have tissues ready! Loved the kids, especially Mila Jankovich as Mabel. She could carry a BJ number 5! Rated 4 out of 5 stars 07/29/25 Full Review Read all reviews
