A bittersweet romp about new beginnings with another sparkling turn by Renée Zellweger, Mad About the Boy gracefully closes the book on Bridget Jones' diary.

Amy Amatangelo Tellyvisions Underneath pratfalls and slapstick moments is a more mature, poignant movie about moving on after the devastating loss of a loved one. Jul 25, 2025 Full Review Maxwell Rabb Chicago Reader Despite all the repeated gags and such, it’s charming—and more emotionally vulnerable than many of its counterparts. Feb 20, 2025 Full Review Mark Kermode Kermode and Mayo's Take (YouTube) It's scrappy. It plays like a series of sketches and some of them work better than others... [but] it settles down into something which is actually about grief. Feb 19, 2025 Full Review Liselotte Vanophem Geek Vibes Nation While the Bridget Jones franchise could have easily ended after three films, Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy is precisely the sequel we needed without realizing it. Rated: 8/10 Jul 13, 2025 Full Review Maxance Vincent Film Speak None of it feels chintzy or manipulative: the conversations all feel natural, the comedy is note-perfect, and the dramatic underpinnings of Jones’ journey will move you to tears. Rated: A Jul 11, 2025 Full Review Kevin Fallon The Daily Beast While I know that, technically speaking, Bridget Jones is not a real person, she is real to me. So it was quite meaningful to catch up with her in the utterly lovely new film Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy. Jun 10, 2025 Full Review Read all reviews

Marco M Unfortunately this is a very boring unfunny movie. Very bad script, acting and directing. Uninteresting story. The first one was and still is perfect: 10 out of 10, the 2nd one bad, 4 out of 10. Nr 3 was OK, 7/10. But this one is the worst: 1/10. Obviously they tried very hard imitate scenes from the first part, like the garden party etc. but failed very much. The only good thing is that I passed on this one in the cinemas and waited to see it for free when I could stream it. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 07/25/25 Full Review Beth T Bridget is back and this is the best film since the original! While this film is a charming romantic comedy, it was also incredibly profound which really caught me off guard. Exploring Bridget's life after the death of Mark Darcy was handled beautifully and creates a stunning film about how to continue on with life after an awful event. With many of our favourite characters returning and finally Hugh Grant appearing again Mad About The Boy is a stunning final chapter for Bridget. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 07/23/25 Full Review Sarah C This is the best Bridget Jones story in ages! I found myself crying, laughing, and loving every minute of it. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 07/11/25 Full Review Jake G. so wholesome and comfy Rated 5 out of 5 stars 07/04/25 Full Review Donavin D This review is a bit tough for me to write. I’m usually able to sit through most films and get a good grasp of the characters, motivations, through-lines, and overall plot—but this one was a struggle. My partner recommended it, and even though I was hesitant at first, she has a knack for getting me emotionally invested in things I’d normally have no interest in. (Gilmore Girls still haunts me.) Knowing this, I gave the film an honest try—but within 10 minutes, it was clear that it had little to offer beyond its premise and the draw of a recognizable name. This was a boring, soulless film with nothing meaningful to say. Although it doesn’t seem that way initially: a woman grappling with the challenges of raising a family after losing her partner, and navigating the desire to be loved and desired again. That could be compelling. But the film never goes deeper than that surface-level setup. She dates a bit, ends up with a younger man (which doesn’t go well), then inevitably moves on to someone else—and that’s everything. The story is stitched together with tired clichés and flat characters, and the script feels like it was at least 50% written on autopilot. Scene by scene, nothing builds, nothing surprises, and the overall narrative feels recycled and uninspired. If I had to find one silver lining—and I say this with acknowledged bias—it’s Hugh Grant is cool and I love seeing him in anything all the time. Go watch Heretic, it came out the year before and I still think about it to this day. I always try to find something positive to say for everything I watch—highlight some clever idea, thoughtful execution, or unexpected twist. But with this film, that’s difficult. Maybe you’ll find something in it that speaks to you, but in a year filled with strong, standout releases, this one is hard to recommend. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 07/03/25 Full Review Cinephile B I didn’t go into this film with high expectations, but it turned out to be a very pleasant surprise. I even laughed out loud sometimes.
