A bittersweet romp about new beginnings with another sparkling turn by Renée Zellweger, Mad About the Boy gracefully closes the book on Bridget Jones' diary.

Maxwell Rabb Chicago Reader Despite all the repeated gags and such, it’s charming—and more emotionally vulnerable than many of its counterparts. Feb 20, 2025 Full Review Mark Kermode Kermode and Mayo's Take (YouTube) It's scrappy. It plays like a series of sketches and some of them work better than others... [but] it settles down into something which is actually about grief. Feb 19, 2025 Full Review Wenlei Ma The Nightly (AU) What you have is a mature film that captures all the ups-and-downs of life, and all the truths we can hold at the same time. Bridget can quietly sit with her pain and have fun sexy times with a younger lover. Rated: 4/5 Feb 19, 2025 Full Review Mini Anthikad-Chhibber The Hindu Hugh Grant’s charming cad, Daniel Cleaver, is the only reason to ignore the many squished-in callbacks as well as the abrupt tonal shifts May 16, 2025 Full Review Rachel Ho Exclaim! Fourth installments in a franchise (especially after so much time) are rarely a good idea, but Mad About the Boy continues on the tradition of the franchise's penchant for bittersweet sentiment and joyful humour. May 14, 2025 Full Review Manuel Betancourt FilmWeek (LAist) This is the Bridget Jones we know and love and if you enjoy that then this is going to be an affable two hours of your time. Steven G. T Bridget Jone's sequel felt like an underwhelming effort to bring nostalgia back to the cinemas by using beloved names of the past to a new narrative, in which I was not particularly satisfied, regardless of the investment I felt watching the movie. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 05/22/25 Full Review Daniel B More of the same, except Bridget is older and still hapless. Kids barely gave any real part, again it's just about her waffling between two guys and acting quirky. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 05/22/25 Full Review Nicola R Tired and predictable. Having dated younger I thought the ending of this was wrong, and there was no chemistry between Zellweger and Ejiofor. It felt like all the joy was sucked out of me. Highlights of the movie involved Hugh Grant's great "uncle". Would not recommend. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 05/19/25 Full Review Karen F Cute but too long. Got a bit boring Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 05/10/25 Full Review Audience Member Very boring of all 4... didn't have to kill Firth in the movie Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 05/05/25 Full Review Chris M The joke was over the last time: personally I found this pretty boring, but I appreciate that others will enjoy it.
