A bittersweet romp about new beginnings with another sparkling turn by Renée Zellweger, Mad About the Boy gracefully closes the book on Bridget Jones' diary.

Maxwell Rabb Chicago Reader Despite all the repeated gags and such, it’s charming—and more emotionally vulnerable than many of its counterparts. Feb 20, 2025 Full Review Mark Kermode Kermode and Mayo's Take (YouTube) It's scrappy. It plays like a series of sketches and some of them work better than others... [but] it settles down into something which is actually about grief. Feb 19, 2025 Full Review Wenlei Ma The Nightly (AU) What you have is a mature film that captures all the ups-and-downs of life, and all the truths we can hold at the same time. Bridget can quietly sit with her pain and have fun sexy times with a younger lover. Rated: 4/5 Feb 19, 2025 Full Review David Griffiths Subculture Entertainment It is rare that a film so far into a franchise still manages to have audiences feeling for characters let alone surprising them with events. But this is what happens here with a film that is arguably the best in the franchise. Rated: 4/5 Mar 13, 2025 Full Review Natasha Alvar Hallmarkies Podcast If this is the last film in the Bridget Jones franchise, it's a very nice send-off for Bridget. Mar 9, 2025 Full Review Sarah Cartland Caution Spoilers Relatable though Zellweger still is as Bridget, the star of the show is Hugh Grant, who is, as always nowadays, hilarious. He has already out-acted two British icons – Bridget and Paddington – so just make him the next Bond villain and have done with it. Rated: 4/5 Mar 8, 2025 Full Review Read all reviews

Sue Q I’m a Bridget Jones fan, I love it but they should have stopped. The humour was predictable, acting terrible and it bored me. Mr Wallicker turned into a version of Mark Darcy and it made me cringe. Nothing original, totally predictable and time I won’t get back! Rated 1 out of 5 stars 03/17/25 Full Review K G With these franchises about funny relatable protagonists come a sad but important part in the story. Being based on a line of diary type novels, it would be vital to put a personal tragic event into the story. The example with Bridget Jones in this is that she is now widowed showing it in both a funny & hard-hitting way. We are even shown grieving & the POVs of her children such as when Mabel wants to look out for a ⚪️🦉 every night which implies the spirit of Mark Darcy. In the end, her & Scott Wallawick were the perfect match - Scott was like Mark; somebody who was a mood at first but getting to know him more, he was a warm hearted person. Mark would have loved him as well. In addition, with the official return of Daniel Cleaver, he does not seem bad anymore as an Uncle, who is nice to her children & Bridget, as a friend. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 03/16/25 Full Review Sally M What a load of dross. A woman/child strutting around with turned in toes and constantly pouty lips, sweetly whispering her way through the full film. Only went as a favour to help an old friend and would have left otherwise Rated 1 out of 5 stars 03/15/25 Full Review Tobias K I have never watched any of the other movies before, but I definitely had a good time. It's working clearly and expertly within the confinements of romantic comedy, while the characters' struggles are taken seriously enough to push through in the dramatic phases. Bridget feels taken more seriously, with less second-hand embarassment while still a cringe human being like we all are. As an end to the franchise, it's giving a good performance. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 03/15/25 Full Review A D Very very boring. All about Renee Zellweger. No depth. Too many long close ups of over the top facial expressions of Renee. And was kind of a slap in the face to older men. Almost predatorial. Her age was too distracting to the role which meant the other mothers were also late 40s to mid 50s. Weird and predatorial. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 03/14/25 Full Review Angie M Absolute garbage with the exceptions of Leo Woodhall and Hugh Grant. Boring and repetitive and ending with Bridget suddenly being paired off with a guy who she had zero chemistry with. The abject disappointment in the theatre at the end, that was full of women of a certain age, was palpable. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 03/13/25 Full Review Read all reviews
