Brent McKnight The Last Thing I See Do you like disemboweling? Do you like people being forced to eat their friend's eyeballs? If you have such discerning, gore-soaked taste, you'll probably want to check out "The Burning Moon." Rated: B+ Jul 13, 2020 Full Review Read all reviews

Quillian M I lost my mind watching this film, and to be honest, I almost think that was the point. This was so poorly edited, written, and designed that I don't know what I experienced. It was so mentally exhausting that I had to immediately go to bed after watching it - it felt like my brain was melting out my ears. But now I can say I've seen it. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 12/14/23 Full Review Audience Member Olaf ittenbach directed this? I am not surprised but I was just disappointed with how badly acted the film is. If this is a comedy then I would actually enjoy this film slightly more. I didn't know what I was doing to resort to watching a German underground horror film like this. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 02/01/23 Full Review Audience Member Sooner or later every horror fan runs out of things worth watching and has to resort to scraping the bottom of the barrel (like I've been doing the last few weeks). This is where you'll find amateur self-proclaimed filmmakers like Jörg Buttgereit (the execrable Nekromantik movies) or Fred Vogel (August Underground) and Olaf Ittenbach. The difference it seems with Ittenbach is that unlike his infamous counterparts he seems to actually want to make a movie and not just resort to cheap shock value. That is not to say Burning Moon is worth a flip because its most definitely not. Other than some ok gore and a really insane version of Hell near the end everything else is third rate. It's an ok introduction to Ittenbach and I plan on watching something more recent of his to see if he has gotten any better and can graduate him from Vogal, Buttgereit and the rest of their cesspool. Until then--to be continued. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 01/26/23 Full Review Audience Member I'm giving this movie a "strong" 3 stars. There is a lot of potential ground to cover with this movie, but in short, there is something here to be enjoyed by most any fan of horror and/or art house. Whether you enjoy your horror for "cheese" factor, or for gore, or for remorseless attack or atmosphere there is something to be seen in this flick. It of course is most notorious for the gore, and that it certainly delivers, and for those who get their fix from laughing there is certain some low budget translation/subtitles that will suit that taste if that is what you are looking for. However for those horror fans who are looking for something more real, serious, and disturbing; or for the art house fan seeking atmosphere and though provocation, that can been found too if you choose to look closely enough. And that is perhaps what impressed me the most is that for what is essentially a Shot on Video (SOV) and very low budget effort, this movie creates quite a decent amount of atmosphere. Whether it is the surrealistic dream sequences that pop up a couple of times, the short but very real moments of suspense, or the depiction of hell in the denouement. So if you are looking for a good time then the cultural differences and seemingly unmotivated translation will most certainly deliver. And if you are willing to put aside potential differences and give yourself to the surrealistic, mean spirited and gorey ride that is the Burning Moon, you also most likely will not be disappointed! Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/07/23 Full Review Audience Member Loved this movie. The version I got thankfully had english subtitles. The gore and killings were far out. The movie is about this troubled teen who is in a "gang" and is a drug addict. He goes home to be told to stay and watch his younger sister. He is not happy about this. His parents leave and he goes to shoot up. He then decides since he is babysitting he should tell his little sister some bedtime stories. The first story is called Julia's Love. The woman Julia goes out on a blind date with a man named Brian Connor. When actually Brian Connor is Cliff Parker, an ecsaped murdered. They have dinner and he is going to take her home. They get in the car but he leaves to go get smokes, leaving her to listen to the radio. She hears the news story of the escaped killer. The description matches him and so does the car + tag number!! She panics and runs to the nearest car and goes home. When she gets there she goes straight to her room ( I would be telling my parents asap and calling the police) then she realizes she lost her wallet in the car! Now he knows where she lives. She decides to tell her parents. When she goes fownstairs she finds her family slaughtered! Blood and body parts seriously everywhere!! He shows himself and she runs upstairs into the bathroom where her sister has been stabbed and set on fire. She ends up living and the killer dies. This story is so twisted and gory it is a for sure hand squeezer!!! The brother (Peter) goes on to tell his sister the last story. The Purity. That story is about a messed up priest who goes around raping and killing woman. He thinks it makes him pure and its a way into heaven. Woman are being murdered and the town is blaming it on ths young farmer who seems sincerly nice and doesn't want to be involved. The town blames him. The priest talks with the farmer and assures him that if anyone cause him fatal harm that they would be sentenced to a tortuous death in HELL. Well the town folk hire a hitman to do the work for them. He goes and murders the poor man. And sure as shit he gets sent to hell. The hell is so graphic and scary! The hitman is tortured beyond an average torture session. His eye gets drilled out, teeth get drilled, all sorts of metal objects thrust into his stomach. And the final act of having being split open from his legs being pulled so far apart. After the story is done the ending is so far twisted I was not expecting that at all. Loved this movie! If you can stand subtitles, this graphic gorefest is for you!!! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/02/23 Full Review Audience Member Pretty atrocious low budget gore flick but the depiction of Hell in the last 15 minutes is actually downright nasty in places! Not really worth bothering with on the whole though. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 02/03/23 Full Review Read all reviews
