Husband and wife filmmakers Martin E. and Osa Johnson made this partially staged documentary in the Belgian Congo (now the Democratic Republic of the Congo) in 1930. The Johnsons' first sound film, it features animal noises of the jungle and savanna (a remarkable novelty for the period), along with an informative and sometimes humorous narration by Martin. The nature scenes are interspersed with scenes of the couple's interactions with Pygmy natives in local villages.
