Audience Member Very sad story depicted well. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 06/06/24 Full Review Jeff M One of the best TV movies I've ever seen, this is almost too painful to watch at times, especially when considering it is a true story. Peters gives an extraordinary performance as David's mother. She is the backbone of the movie and refreshingly provides us with a multi-dimensional character who is far from the normal hysterical mother we would normally see in this type of movie. She is prickly and combative as well as loving and compassionate. Glover is brave and convincing as David's father in a role that must have been quite difficult to bring to life. It occasionally falls into some TV movie sentimentality every now and then, but the vast majority of this feels raw and real. With a few tweaks here and there, this could have been a theatrical release, and I'm sure Peters would have garnered some awards attention. Incidentally, the real-life David Rothenberger became a conceptual artist by the name of Dave Dave. He passed away last year from sepsis due to pneumonia.
