The attractive but bird-brained German biopic Eight Miles High brings up the question of tone, and it never comes close to answering it. The film's tone is utterly indistinct, beyond fatuous adoration of its subject.

Once your main character walks into a room and finds her boyfriend cheating on her with another woman while a chimpanzee in a dress looks on, you've pretty much lost your shot at a serious movie.

An enjoyable paean to seventies European hedonism, obviously made for an audience that knows who the it-girl protagonist is, but doesn't really suffer for those who don't. Bonus points for the soundtrack.

A curious view on women's emancipation from the 60s to the 80s that leaves us questioning what has really been achieved. Tolerance can be quite as repressive as repression. The pictures of beautiful German starlet Uschi Obermaier deliver the story well, but the soundtrack could have used more original songs of the 70s.
