Audience Member A touching and provoking movie, For A Moment, Freedom ( Ein Augenblick Freiheit) is stunningly realistic, down-to-earth human drama which depicts a reality to which most of us are indifferent or at least not familiar with it. With no political or any other hidden agenda, this movie is about people, about families searching for a better life, for personal freedom. This is a movie with no big aims either, it is about human compassion and hope. Nothing less and nothing more. Set in the Asian part of Turkey, For A Moment, Freedom tells the story of two Iranian families, an elder Iranian dissident and an Iraqi Kurd who have all reached Turkey in their attempts to escape the economic and the political misery of their homelands. Headed for a brighter future, hopefully somewhere in Western Europe, the movie tells several different, but very realistic and simple stories. And just like in reali life, things never happen the way people hope; life is more gracious towards some and less favorable towards others. The newcomer director Arash T. Riahi takes no risks at becoming political, despite the glimpse of anti-Iranian government feeling that he expresses. Still, he never loses his focus on his characters. Simple and sometimes depressing, Riahi always finds a way to project his hope on his characters: whether via cooking a stolen duck or via the innocence of the young kids, there is always a part of optimism. The cast is, just like the director, totally unknown to the broad audience but it perfectly suits its function: to tell a human story, differing itself from the sweetened-pop-corn Hollywood dramas. What is probably the biggest success of Riahi's movie is the fact that it evokes compassion. Even if you are not familiar with the refugee and political issues in this region you feel yourself drawn by the drama of those ordinary people. In my case, this effect is much stronger, as one of my Iranian friends has tried twice to escape from Iran via Turkey and somehow I just received an idea what he had gone through... For A Moment Freedom is a movie to see and to experience and Arash T. Riahi is definitely a director to follow in the future. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 02/08/23 Full Review Audience Member Well-acted austrian/persian feature film with documentary character. Question and answer session with the director afterwards does kinda help of course :) check out http://www.oz-cinethek.at for more "Patschenkino" Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/18/23 Full Review Audience Member A touching and provoking movie, For A Moment, Freedom ( Ein Augenblick Freiheit) is stunningly realistic, down-to-earth human drama which depicts a reality to which most of us are indifferent or at least not familiar with it. A window on the world that shows the differences and similarities of the human condition here on planet earth. http://themaninthehat.com Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/12/23 Full Review Audience Member I hated the part where an innocent swan was slaughtered and all the fun that was made out of it. Otherwise quite good. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/11/23 Full Review Audience Member A very moving film, highly politically engaged (which is good), nice and engaging actors, some really strong scenes...
