First of all even though the idea was pretty good it is so over the top and not really necessary and the more the film goes on the more silly it gets, The acting wasn't great and the ending was pretty poor, But it gets three stars for trying something different.

The film offers quite an unusual and whacky promise, which is also the biggest flaw of the plot. Due to the fact that the idea of combinding a suicide attempt & a bank heist in a closey woven tale, there are only so many places the climax and solution of this film can go and that makes it pretty uninteresting to follow the film, once you have puzzled out what it is all about (which happens after 20 minutes into the film). The rest is just waiting for the plot to unravel, littered with cliches and mediocre (at best ) filmmaking. Alas, the performances (apart from Ed Harris of course) are not enough to carry the thin thrills and some are bordering on the abysmal (Sedgwick as Usual and Welliver is pain to behold). I also dislike when films cast so many female roles in unrealistic roles just to fulfil the Hollywood quota. So there is a tough female cop AND a super cool female thief (yeah right, this is not an Anime series you know). Anyhow, an average thriller, without the thrills, unremarkable and soon to be forgot, if it isn't already.

In "Man on a Ledge," Nick Cassidy(Sam Worthington), a disgraced NYPD detective, takes the opportunity of a fight with his brother Joey(Jamie Bell) at their father's funeral to escape from custody. Nick's next move is to check into a swanky midtown hotel, order an expensive room service meal and then go stand out on the ledge. Detective Jack Dougherty(Ed Burns) is the first on the scene but it is Detective Lydia Mercer(Elizabeth Banks) that he really wants to talk to, threatening that if she does not show up in thirty minutes he will jump. Which might be a little tricky considering the hangover she is currently nursing. And this is all before Nick starts hearing voices... To be fair, "Man on the Ledge" is far from perfect, as it should have kept Nick's identity hidden for longer. That's not to mention a grievously miscast Elizabeth Banks in a key role when Maria Bello would have been an inspired choice instead. Admittedly, I have a weakness for movies like this which start with a single incident leading to something much larger and at least this is honest enough to reference better movies that might have inspired it. Plus, it keeps things relatively moving, fun and contained, cleaning up any stray details it might have otherwise left behind while having a couple of things to stay about the class struggle in New York City and how the police might fit in.

What this is: Cheap thrills, good entertainment. What this goes with: Popcorn. Keeping this is mind, this is very decent fun. Solid mainstream fare.
