Mid-level Manhattan mobster Tony Gordoni (Leo Carrillo) and his associates take over a popular record label, gaining control of a number of famous singers and musicians. To please his mother (Nellie V. Nichols), Gordoni presses one of his acts, Jerry Hart (Phil Regan), to persuade temperamental opera diva Charlizzini (Tamara Geva) to make her first record. Jerry's attempts to woo the singer into a contract complicate his impending marriage to secretary Ann Rogers (Ann Dvorak).
