dave s It's hard to imagine getting impatient while watching a movie that's only seventy minutes long, but Tod Browning's Miracles for Sale achieves the feat. It's a comedy without laughs, a thriller without suspense, and a mystery without any clues. To its credit, it tries desperately to incorporate elements of magic and mysticism into a murder mystery but fails miserably due to the fact that when anything unusual happens, you know that it will ultimately be attributed to one of the magicians or psychics resorting to their predictable hijinks. Understandably and thankfully, this was Browning's last directorial effort. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 03/30/23 Full Review Audience Member Tod Browning's final film is unquestionably a Browning film, filled with murder, crooked mentalists, the supernatural and shady magicians. Robert Young is an ex-magician who now outs fake mentalists and spiritualists. Young then ends up helming a beautiful socialite who is falsely accused of murder. It's pretty fun, even if the story is a bit corny and obvious at times, and is a worthy film for Browning to end his macabre (and mixed bag) film career.
