Blu B This film has all the pieces for a good melodrama. Great actors, Technicolor, great production value, satisfactory direction, and an idea that sounds interesting. And yet....it just feels so....empty and lacking. The editing isn't bad but everything else is just ok. Nothing is broken here and you'd think looking at a few still shots this should be good but man...it's just not so much boring as just I could'nt care about anything really. The characters, story, world, just nothing. The actors are trying but just don't have really any real chemistry and pthe performances come across as wooden more than anything. There also just boring and generic with no real layers of complexity to their background. The first 50 minutes setting this up goes NOWHERE and NEVER builds any sort of conflict. It's like watching the All American family and how everything is going great for them but it never sets up any tension or conflict despite setting up the story fine. Than it becomes a cold war thriller out of nowhere and you think it'll take a 180 and get cool and that's over in less than 5 minutes. They try to ham in the mother/daughter family drama but because we never seen Rock & the daughter on their own and stayed on the mother the whole way it just feels shallow once again. Besides the boring characters, music, and acting, this film really fails more than anything at creating any sort of conflict. It's not light hearted so much as it just never amounts to anything despite the story making perfect sense. Skip This. Biggest Nothing Burger I've seen in a while. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/07/25 Full Review r 9 It's a really sweet story, but the execution of it to bring it to our screens is disappointing. The A to B of 'Never Say Goodbye' is rather endearing, with people reconnecting. However, how the film fills in the blanks is kinda shoddy. I found a lot of the dialogue to be cringeworthy and the way characters act came across as irritating. I will say most of that stems from the final 30 or so minutes, it's a tad more solid up until that point. The cast members themselves are good, it's all well acted. Rock Hudson, Cornell Borchers and George Sanders are all decent value. The look of the film is also pleasant enough. I just wish the production itself, namely on the writing side, was more well made. Clint Eastwood has a blink-and-you'll-miss-it uncredited role, though is named - as 'Will'. Still a fair few films until his career really got going. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review ashley h Never Say Goodbye is a disappointing film. It is about Dr. Michael Parker who unexpectedly runs into his German-born wife whom he thought was dead. Rock Hudson and George Sanders give terrible performances. The screenplay is badly written. Jerry Hopper did a horrible job directing this movie. I was not impressed with this motion picture.
