Matt Brunson Film Frenzy Lee possessed one of the great voices in cinema, so Sherlock Holmes and the Deadly Necklace is immediately hobbled by the fact that we never have the pleasure of hearing him speak. Rated: 2.5/4 Oct 20, 2024 Full Review Alberto Abuín Espinof The film suffers a lot with its plot, based almost entirely on chance. [Full Review in Spanish] May 7, 2020 Full Review Read all reviews

Marvin G Not just the worst Sherlock Holmes movie I've seen, but one of the worst films period. Even Nigel Bruce's buffoon of a Dr. Watson doesn't drag the Nigel Bruce films down to the level of this disaster. Christopher Lee, as Holmes, is watchable, but nearly every other actor treated the abysmal script with achingly bad acting. It truly looks as if the screenwriter and Director decided to see how intentionally awful a film they could make. The Holmes character is a great one, and many of Conan Doyle's stories were excellent, but when they made them into movies for what Producers must have presumed was an illiterate movie audience, the results were often grim. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 06/03/23 Full Review Audience Member Christopher Lee makes this film bearable. He saves the day. I have seen the film a while ago, and that's what I remember the most: that the story is mediocre at best, but Lee is so talented he could make an awful script worthy enough to watch. His persona is perfect material for Holmes. His authority and substance fill the screen. Aesthetically, the picture is reminiscent of the silent films made in the first decades of cinema, a fitting atmosphere for a Sherlock Holmes adventure. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/30/23 Full Review Audience Member great film christopher lee as sherlock holmes great part Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 02/03/23 Full Review Audience Member This German made 1962 Sherlock Holmes film suffers from bad dubbing and a very cheap feel to it. Christopher Lee does make a good Holmes, and the scenes between him and his arch nemesis, Moriarty, are what save this fim from being really bad. Another thing I don't understand is why the film makers see fit to set in modern day England. The Universal Holmes films did this as well, with much more success than this picture. A curiosity for Holmes buffs more than anything. This film also has one of the worst scores ever produced for a film. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 01/18/23 Full Review Audience Member The Deadly Necklace Starring: Christopher Lee and Thorley Walters Director: Terence Fisher This 1962 German film (with its two British stars and a British director) has very little to recommend it. The script is like a reject from the Universal series starring Basil Rathbone (with everything I don't like about the weaker efforts among those amplified ten-fold here, most notably Watson being portrayed as a bumbling, retarded simpleton), with an unbearably bad score. (Christopher Lee has supposedly said that he is pleased with the film. While I won't quibble with his opinion that he and Walters more closely resemble Holmes and Watson than any other on-screen pair, I don't think it's enough for anyone to be pleased with this weak effort.) The plot of "Sherlock Holmes and the Deadly Necklace" sees Holmes and his arch-nemisis Professor Moriarity matching wits over an Egyptian necklace owned by Cleopatra, witih it being stolen and re-stolen several times through the film. There are a couple of interesting moments between Holmes and Moriarity (who is played by an appropriately sinister actor), but the downside is that they feel like they belong more in a hard-boiled, pulp fiction detective novel than a Holmes adventure.
