      What to Know

      Critics Consensus

A mediocre live-action children's movie, Snow Dogs is filled with cliched dialogue, tiresome pratfalls, and stale fish-out-of-water jokes.

Just Dance B This movie will always be good! Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 11/06/23 Full Review Audience Member I thought it was entertaining and funny. Heartfelt and goofy. Fun watch for svrryone Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 12/09/22 Full Review Sega F That movie is the woorst! Rated 1 out of 5 stars 09/27/22 Full Review Audience Member This movie has been a favorite of mine since I first saw it when I was, what, five. I don't remember well if young me could sniff out the story (joke intended) but I'm sure many adults my age can see it coming from miles away. But that's the thing, this movie was based off of a book by Gary Paulsen. The straight ahead humor of the movie is what brings me back. Short little bursts that make me snort almost twenty years later now. "To my friend Peter Yellowbear" Played by the wonderful Graham Greene "My lucky putter. But don't expect it to improve your game." The movie provides grown up styled humor that I, personally, adore. Much like Ted, the main character played by Cuba Gooding Jr., saying that a man by the name of Thunder Jack, (James Coburn) cannot have gotten hit by thunder once, let alone twice. Only for Peter Yellowbear to silently nod. The story, as previously stated is as predictable as the day is long. Is that such a bad thing? A man trying to find out who his father is. A man versus nature in the form of a bunch of sled dogs that he has no idea how to handle but learns over the course of the movie. Sure the story, critically, is blah, I personally do not return to this movie for story telling marvels. Quite honestly, I find myself zoning out a portion of the time, or blocking out the use of the word 'eskimo' or trying not to think of a young James Coburn getting it on with Nichelle Nichols (even if she is Ted's adoptive mother and not his birth mother). But the sense of closeness I pick up from the characters, the solid friendships and great chemistry I find so endearing makes this movie a great one to watch in the uncertain times wondering if we are going to be locked down again. I view this movie as a group of old friends that I can return to whenever I need it. All in all you should spare the 100 minutes and give it an honest shot. Looking past some of the dated language, skunk humor, and animal hijinks, I think you will find a warm classic to enjoy. Is that so bad? Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/03/23 Full Review robert p Better than most comedies, I found myself laughing at all the antics of the snow dogs and the other dog. I give this movie *3 and 1/2* stars. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member For those who like dogs, good family style movie with a touch of personality this is it. Reviews are not real good on movie but my wife and i watched it this morning and loved it . Cuba does hes usual bumbling stumbling type humor which is what may have brought down the reviews , but he has a great cast around him and the late great james coburn as hes long lost rough tough dad ,who gets nearly a tear in my eyes in the ending with great acting that he always has done. Anyway for a feel good movie ,at Christmas or anytime this is the Movie . This was made in 2002 the same year that James Coburn Died from a heart attack . Nov 18th 2002 he was at home enjoying him self ,playing hes flute and listening to music then heart attack from nowhere ,and he was gone at 74 yrs old. At one time when young in hes prime he used to train under Bruce lee before Bruce died .He Was pretty good at martial arts . One of hes most favorite movies he said was the 1960 Magnificent Seven ,with (Yul Brynner, Eli Wallach ,Steve McQueen, Charles Bronson, Robert Vaughn, Brad Dexter, James Coburn and Horst Buchholz.)
