This Croatian romantic comedy/drama is not comparable with anything coming from Hollywood, and the reason is that the writer and the director Hrvoje Hribar managed to incorporate the dark humour of the Balkans into the dialogue so successfully that I wasn't sure if I wanted to laugh or cry at the given moments. This was an adaptation of Ante Tomic's 2000 novel of the same name, and maybe the credit should be given to him for the really well developed crazy story! We had all things happening, from a young widow Tatjana (Zrinka Cviteic) chasing a handsome Catholic priest, former alcoholic, father Stipan (Leon Luchev), her dead husband's brother Marinko (Ivo Gregurevic), who has also recently returned from Germany wants her as his wife, and the local bishop (Ivica Vidovic) wants to reduce the risk of anything wrong happening sending the young priest to mission in Africa... but wait, there is more... of course, you'll have to watch the movie to find out what twists lay ahead - and there are many, rolling like a steam-roller while you are trying to catch a breath. I am familiar with most of the actors from this part of the world, and this was impressive cast!
I already mentioned few times one of the oldest film festivals in that part of the world, the one at Pula. Well, at the 53rd Pula Film Festival, this film won the Golden Gate of Pula award as the audience's favourite. At the same festival, Cviteic won the Golden Arena award for Best Actress in a Leading Role and Tamara Obrovac won the award for Best Music Score. In addition to winning at Pula, Cviteic also won the Best Actress Award at the 11th Sarajevo Film Festival. Very entertaining, and with outstanding humour, this movie is magically realistic but because of the unique style of the humour, movie is usually hard to sell outside the Balkans. There is absurdist tone you could feel all the time but that did not disturb the good-natured sensibility which will follow you to the end. If you have a chance to find it - please, enjoy it for me as well!

Un film choral, mais pas trop non plus puisqu'il se concentre essentiellement sur deux de ses personnages : un pretre ex-alcoolique et une jeune veuve plein aux as suite au deces accidentel de son epoux sur un chantier en Allemagne dont elle touche l'assurance contractee aupres de son entreprise. Cet argent qu'elle fait fructifier suscite la convoitise de pas mal de gens autour d'elle. Il permettrait par exemple de refaire le clocher de l'eglise du pretre dont elle s'amourache. Ca, c'est en gros l'exposition, après ça part un peu dans tous les sens. Melant religion, famille, patrie et armee, des thèmes "tres croates", de façon pas tres logique, un brin brouillonne, sans but precis mais en tout cas avec une bonne humeur communicative et en sachant surprendre. Un film sympathique !

Really love this one, though seems innocent, it shows very well the state of society in Croatia, from the local people to the very top.
