Unemployed and seemingly broken of spirit, he takes a pistol and heads for the road, leaving his very scared wife behind. She fears the worst, hearing gunshots, but he returns later, having pawned the gun for food and a toy for his daughter. See more 05/06/2014 This melodrama short was included on the DVD of Little Caesar. It was based on a short stage play. It is filled with obscure "hard-boiled" language to show urban toughness. A young Spencer Tracy stars as a desperate out-of-work father during the Great Depression. A cute toddler and sappy ending make it just a little too saccharine.
