India P very good, i enjoyed. charlie and rosie did not. :( Rated 5/5 Stars •  Rated 5 out of 5 stars 11/06/24 Full Review Michael Antony A Mikey's Movie Review: The Wind In The Willows (1983) There have been numerous retellings of Kenneth Grahame's classic 1908 novel The Wind in the Willows over the years, but none so faithfully and delightfully brought to life as in Cosgrove Hall's 1983 stop motion animated film. Deservedly winning both a BAFTA and Emmy award, it's filled with a quintessential British charm and an attention to detail only really seen in the work from Aardman Animations. The brilliant voice cast included a host of 80's TV regulars including David Jason (Toad & Chief Weasel), Richard Pearson (Mole), Ian Carmichael (Rat), Sir Michael Hordern (Badger), Beryl Reid (Mrs Carrington-Moss & the magistrate), Brian Trueman (Henchman Weasel ) and Una Stubbs (Jailor's daughter and Rosemary). While the music was composed by Keith Hopwood (formerly of ‘60's band Herman's Hermits), who would go on to create scores for the fondly remembered Cosgrove Hall adaptations of Terry Pratchett's Soul Music and Wyrd Sisters, Roald Dahl's The BFG, and theme songs for the popular children's shows Bob The Builder and Pingu! For a whole generation, the name Cosgrove Hall was a sure sign of unique, fun, quality children's entertainment. Noddy, Chorlton and the Wheelies, Count Duckula and the inimitable Danger Mouse to name but a few… all informed my youth and early teenage interest in animation. Rated 5/5 Stars •  Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/23/23 Full Review Audience Member Stop-motion animation version of Kenneth Graham's 1908 book featuring rascally Mr. Toad and his stalwart and more sensible friends Mole, Rat, and Badger. We watched this immediately after reading the book and, although the film takes some minor liberties with the novel (mostly excluding the more poetic and bucolic chapters), the central story of Toad remains mostly intact (if abbreviated). If you don't know, Mr Toad develops a fetish for motor cars, steals one and ends up in jail, later to escape only to find his house has been taken over by weasels; fortunately his friends help him to secure it back and he promises never to be such a naughty fellow again (as if!). The film captures the wistful tone of the book, casting its kino eye lovingly over the countryside and the contents of each house (Toad Hall, Mole End, the Rat's homely abode), beautifully rendered in paper maiche (if not clay - it is hard to tell!). The kids' attention may have wandered a bit (just as it did with the book itself) but I found the film quite enjoyable and it would probably be quite nostalgic if I had originally encountered it as a kid myself on British TV.
