Jonathan Romney Film Comment Magazine When I saw this film prefaced by a trailer for the far glossier-looking Black Panther, it slightly felt, once Thor: Ragnarok started, that we were being palmed off with an hors d'oeuvre for the next, bigger thing down the line. Mar 8, 2018 Full Review Kristen Lopez Culturess Beautifully filmed with serious kinetic energy by director Taika Waititi, with a crackling script, Thor: Ragnarok is a heap of fun. Cue "Immigrant Song!" Nov 20, 2017 Full Review Hunter Harris New York Magazine/Vulture Tessa's got the comedic timing to match Taika Waititi's Thor humor, and the physicality to lead the movie's pack of superheroes. She's not trying to outdo the boys; she's just trying to sip her drink and mind her own business. Nov 9, 2017 Full Review John Daniel Tangalin The Cinema Spot Thor: Ragnarok has become a well-liked Marvel Cinematic Universe film by fans and critics alike, and is a film worth watching. Rated: 8/10 Jul 19, 2025 Full Review Joseph Garcia Dynamic Duel Podcast The movie single-handedly changed the status quo of a character more than any other Marvel movie. ... It should be commended for taking risks where other superhero films haven't. Janice W I enjoyed seeing this version of Thor a lot more now than when I saw it originally. Amazing how you pick up things that you didn't see before. This was even better than Thor :Love and Thunder. Picked up the funnier lines and giggled even though I've seen this one before. Loved Chris' haircut and Tom Hiddleston as Loki. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 09/10/22 Full Review Eric went to see this when it came out in 3D and it was great. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 04/06/22 Full Review Allie F Was this movie epic, or what? These MCU movies keep rocking it, and this one was just as entertaining as the others. It leaves you feeling charged up by the end and inspired to go run a marathon (ok, maybe that's pushing it). Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 02/04/22 Full Review G Best Thor movie of the franchise yet. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 12/31/21 Full Review Aaron this movie made up for the first two thir movies. love everything about this flick! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 11/18/21 Full Review Donavin D The third Thor film, helmed by Taika Waititi, was a complete change of direction for the character and for the Thor films on a whole — the tone of the film had changed from the previous films as well, leaning more into more lighthearted comedic tones and it works surprisingly perfectly. With some of the most fun and frenetic action of the trilogy, a lighter comedic tone and some great and memorable moments, Thor Ragnarok is easily the best of the Thor films hands down. Ragnarok addresses nearly every flaw or weakness from the earlier Thor films. Where previous Thor films featured weak and underdeveloped villains, here we get our most engaging and charismatic one in Cate Blanchett’s Hela — acting as both a physical threat and even an emotional one for Thor and Loki as their sister imprisoned by none other than Odin, their collective father. A more engaging tone and color pallet, previous Thor films were played very straight and that was not necessarily a bad choice but it left those films feeling very same-y and devoid of the charm that Marvel had championed at the time, Ragnarok overflowed with charm and vibrancy. The film is also the most impactful of the trilogy, with lasting effects and shifts for both Thor and his home within the MCU, his relationships with other characters like Hulk and Loki and the introduction of new fan favorites like Valkyrie. Taika Waititi was firing on all cylinders, recreating the Thor film franchise with his classic brand of happy-sad filmmaking and it helped make Thor someone we could both engage with during the high moments and actions scenes and sympathize with during his defeats and low moments. Thor Ragnarok is full of action, heart and comedy and all in the perfect amounts. It’s one of the films that encapsulates why I have such a deep affinity with the franchise in the first place. It is one of the best Thor films and just a great time at the movies. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 11/28/25 Full Review Read all reviews
