deborah p Absolutely compelling from beginning to end. An intense emotional roller coaster of a film. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 04/11/23 Full Review dustin d Transpecos is a low-budget/no-celebrity movie done right. The fact there are no recognizable faces works in this movie's favor, as we're not distracted by the big names and find the actors more like real people. It is artistically crafted, but also exciting. The characters' decisions didn't always make sense to me, particularly Flores, but the characters themselves were well-rounded and believable. This will satisfy fans of both art-house films and action films. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review ronald h This movie proves what a creative indie filmmaker can do with a limited budget. Not that Transpecos looks cheap; the cinematography and direction are top notch. Three Texas border guards have the worst day of their lives when stopping a car at their remote desert station. I won't go into detail; suffice it to say that you will pay attention. The suspense is palpable /white knuckle, because we care so much about the characters and their moral / legal dilemma. Gabriel Luna's performance is perfect. He makes us feel his pain. Don't dismiss this one as another Texas desert crime movie. It's something special. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 03/30/23 Full Review Audience Member Really solid movie and I am sure fairly close to how it actually is 4.1 Rated 4 out of 5 stars 11/08/20 Full Review Audience Member Gabriel Luna does a great acting job in a cartel film that doesn't rely on a large budget in order to tell a story. If only the story was a little less murky. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/08/23 Full Review Audience Member A fine film with strong acting and excellent cinematography. Barebones and lean, with a minimal cast. A simple, tough tale of the border, well told. Clifton Collins, Jr. is always good. The dialogue taut and sparse. This is well worth a watch. ****/*****. Phil Hoad Guardian Some of the intended moral heft goes astray in the heat and dust - but this is still a promising dry run for bigger things. Rated: 3/5 Feb 28, 2017 Full Review Brad Wheeler Globe and Mail A taut 86 minutes of moral dilemmas, a drug deal gone wrong and a very bad day in the lives of three border guards. Rated: 3/4 Sep 23, 2016 Full Review John DeFore Hollywood Reporter Artfully made but wholly accessible for a mainstream audience, it features strong performances but no names in the cast who'll draw attention on their own. Sep 9, 2016 Full Review Matt Oakes Silver Screen Riot A potent border fiction that matches high tension thrills with significant characters, played to perfection by Johnny Simmons, Clifton Collins Jr. and Gabriel Luna. Rated: B+ Nov 5, 2018 Full Review Andrew Parker The Gate Sometimes keeping things as uncomplicated as possible can be an asset to a twisty, sparse thriller, but in the case of Transpecos that mindset is a major hindrance. Aug 28, 2018 Full Review Glenn Heath Jr. San Diego CityBeat Eventually, it comes across as a toned down Sicario offering very little beyond veiled cynicism and beleaguered attempts at social relevance.
