In 1987, Cold War tensions mount when Soviet insurgents capture the Trans-Alaska pipeline as retaliation for a trade embargo established by the United States. U.S. President Thomas McKenna (Rock Hudson) and Soviet Secretary General Gorny (Brian Keith) endeavor to negotiate a lasting peace, but, as anxieties escalate, American military officers Kate Breckenridge (Cathy Lee Crosby) and Jake Caffey (David Soul) may be the only ones who can prevent all-out war because of a few extremists.

Audience Member Entertaining and if you did not live through the Cold War, you cannot understand how plausible this could be! It made me sweat when I saw it for the first time. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/19/23 Full Review Audience Member I vaguely remember seeing this TV movie when it first aired in 1982 and finally saw it again. Not sure why it stuck with me but it did. Soldiers at a remote US military base in Alaska engage Soviet paratroopers attempting to destroy a pipeline that supplies the US with 30% of its oil as retaliation for a US grain imbargo as leaders for the two countries slide dangerously close to full scale war. What a mess for the National Guard volunteer who happens to be on duty for one of his two weeks during the year, he only joined so he could ski. He apparently didn't fully buy into the National Guard's "always ready, always there" slogan. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/13/23 Full Review Read all reviews
