What to Know

Critics Consensus

Grounded by reliably terrific performances from Emily Watson and Olivia Williams, Dune: Prophecy lacks the spice of Denis Villeneuve's films but compensates with addictively perilous palace intrigue.

Carol Midgley Times (UK) Even if you’re a Dune nerd, I bet it will be complicated. Needlessly so, some might say. Rated: 3/5 Nov 27, 2024 Full Review Phillip Maciak The New Republic On its own terms, Dune: Prophecy is a fine show. It’s filled with excellent performances, dank but compelling production design, and intriguing little twists and turns. But it feels hemmed in by its status as a prequel. Nov 26, 2024 Full Review Gayle Sequeira The Hollywood Reporter No show whose description entails the term “space witches” should ever be this dull. Nov 23, 2024 Full Review Dhaval Roy The Times of India he show may not match the cinematic grandeur of the films, but it compensates with its rich world-building and intricate political intrigue that it stays true to throughout. Rated: 3.5/5 Jan 31, 2025 Full Review Abhimanyu Mathur Hindustan Times ...the show not only falls way short of the lofty standards set by the films but also does not give us a single character to root for or even hate. That makes the entire exercise of watching Dune: Prophecy one that is detached and impersonal. Jan 30, 2025 Full Review Paula Vázquez Prieto La Nación (Argentina) The road to the conclusion may offer the strongest course, but the universe created by Herbert and the expectation of Villeneuve's films had stimulated the appetite too much for a dinner that leaves us wanting more. James D This was so bad. I can't believe HBO renewed this. So, HBO cuts GOT HOTD episodes but renews this? Good gods. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 02/17/25 Full Review D. A VERY FAITHFUL to the DUNE aesthetics and universe. This is probably the most accurate depiction of Frank Herbert's literary vision on film or television. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/16/25 Full Review Nathaniel L Didn’t follow the books. Was boring at times and had very few characters that actually were worth rooting for. Didn’t need the nudity. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 02/15/25 Full Review Izzy 1 Maybe I didn’t understand what’s going on since I only watched the new movies, but the show should be welcoming for newcomers. Was left confused with the story and glad it was over. Assuming this is much better for true fans but not for me. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 02/15/25 Full Review Diogo G Even though Dune: Prophecy lacks the dimensions of the films, on it's own it still manages to bring a very well crafted story that not only leaves us wondering how it will unfold, but how it all ties with the movies we all know and love. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/13/25 Full Review Jered C Terrible pacing; baffling, dull plot; incoherent confusing time jumps... Whoever produced this show I hope is never hired to produce another series outside of Nickelodeon. The Bene Gesserit are supposed to be mysterious, brilliant, and deadly... The Great Houses are led by cunning, intelligent, brave, and devious leaders. Whoever was responsible for writing this script clearly never read any Dune books. Whoever was responsible for casting actors in the show, failed. Whoever was responsible for cinematography, failed. But mostly, the writing. There are not enough negative adjectives to describe how atrocious the dialogue is. HBO should be embarrassed by this show. Don't waste your time. Hopefully, they'll fire everyone that touched this show and start over. Dune is 100% worth exploring, just hire competent creators!! Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 02/13/25 Full Review Read all reviews
