What to Know

Critics Consensus

Grounded by reliably terrific performances from Emily Watson and Olivia Williams, Dune: Prophecy lacks the spice of Denis Villeneuve's films but compensates with addictively perilous palace intrigue.

Even if you’re a Dune nerd, I bet it will be complicated. Needlessly so, some might say. Go to Full Review

On its own terms, Dune: Prophecy is a fine show. It’s filled with excellent performances, dank but compelling production design, and intriguing little twists and turns. But it feels hemmed in by its status as a prequel. Go to Full Review

It's an impeccably-made show, featuring outstanding production design, costumes, visual effects, and more, but when it comes to the narrative itself, it's more of a mixed bag. Go to Full Review

The series clearly has “Game of Thrones” aspirations which in some ways hamper the early episodes. But it helps in other key ways, namely in its similar grand ambition that shines through in the storytelling, the terrific production design, and costumes. Go to Full Review

Konrad D @dobbie 3d This is basically two shows in one. One part is interesting in terms of characters, environments, and storyline, with amazing actors like Travis Fimmel and Mark Strong. The other part, the sisterhood part, is beyond boring ... It's so frustratingly dull, in fact, that I literally fast forwarded past every scene after a while and still felt like I'm missing very little of the story. I don't care about any of those characters, their boring stories and the obvious boring feminist push behind it. I just want a damn Dune show. And it's clear that the writers were desperate to turn this into a female dominated show but just suck at writing compelling, realistic female characters. Honestly Travis Fimmel and Mark Strong deserve their own spinoff show. Such a shame. Because that part of the story is interesting, the visuals are often amazing. Emily Watson was also miscast in that role.I feel like Olivia Williams would have done a better job. See more Jenaro V 4d Que buena apuesta de HBO, magistralmente ejecutada. Acierto total. See more Lawrence D Nov 1 This is simply amazing!!! So many characters that are actually good, good actors, good writing, just amazing. I'm a huge fan of Travis Fimmel and his character HIS ACTING sooo good, The mystery, The twist, the turns, the reveals This will get a lot of people into Dune if they haven't watched it yet and it's because of how good this show is and again the cast is so good and to see how things connect to the main part of Dune is perfect 10/10 would HIGHLY recommend See more Cel G Sep 15 As a longtime fan of the Dune universe, I found Dune: Prophecy season 1 to be a remarkable achievement. The writing is sharp and compelling, the visual effects and cinematography are breathtaking. The cast delivers outstanding performances across the board, bringing depth and nuance to their roles. The narrative unfolds with intelligence, complexity and subtlety, weaving in twists that keep the tension alive and the viewer fully engaged. It’s difficult to reconcile such quality with the surprisingly low rating on Rotten Tomatoes—especially when far less accomplished shows often receive inflated praise. I eagerly look forward to season 2. See more Dana Z Sep 6 Well this show is dull and a miss. Unfortunately, not good! See more Bas V Jul 25 Great actors. And i love to see the back story.
