What to Know

Critics Consensus

Grounded by reliably terrific performances from Emily Watson and Olivia Williams, Dune: Prophecy lacks the spice of Denis Villeneuve's films but compensates with addictively perilous palace intrigue.

Carol Midgley The Times (UK) Even if you’re a Dune nerd, I bet it will be complicated. Needlessly so, some might say. Rated: 3/5 Nov 27, 2024 Full Review Phillip Maciak The New Republic On its own terms, Dune: Prophecy is a fine show. It’s filled with excellent performances, dank but compelling production design, and intriguing little twists and turns. But it feels hemmed in by its status as a prequel. Nov 26, 2024 Full Review Gayle Sequeira The Hollywood Reporter No show whose description entails the term “space witches” should ever be this dull. Nov 23, 2024 Full Review Allison Rose FlickDirect Fans of Frank Herbert's Dune will appreciate the rich backstory and world-building that bring the Bene Gesserit's legacy to vivid life. Rated: 4/5 May 13, 2025 Full Review Jeff Beck The Blu Spot It's an impeccably-made show, featuring outstanding production design, costumes, visual effects, and more, but when it comes to the narrative itself, it's more of a mixed bag. Rated: 3/5 May 12, 2025 Full Review Keith Garlington Keith & the Movies The series clearly has “Game of Thrones” aspirations which in some ways hamper the early episodes. But it helps in other key ways, namely in its similar grand ambition that shines through in the storytelling, the terrific production design, and costumes. Bas V Great actors. And i love to see the back story. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 07/25/25 Full Review Johann D. M PROMISING AND INTRIGUING!!!! Set in Frank Herbert's Dune universe, 10,000 years before the events of the films, and based on the Great Schools of Dune trilogy, this series explores the origins of the Bene Gesserit—a powerful socio-political and religious order whose members wield extraordinary abilities gained through years of rigorous mental and physical training. At its heart are two Harkonnen sisters, caught in a struggle against looming forces that threaten the future of humankind. With exceptional and meticulous world-building and richly developed characters, the series leans into its palace intrigue to great effect. The performances are strong across the board, with Emily Watson and Olivia Williams standing out as morally ambiguous figures who challenge traditional notions of power and virtue. The visual effects are striking, the costume and set design is sumptuous, and the slow-burning narrative structure rewards viewers who invest their attention episode by episode. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 07/16/25 Full Review Frans B Stunning interpretation of a prequel. I would not say it "lacks the spice" of Villeneuve's Dune, quite the contrary. You need to concentrate in this series and pay attention. If you are a Dune aficionado, this is right up your alley. Intricate, very cleverly written and brought to production. Intriguing to say the least. The whole stellar cast is highly capable and very convincing in character. Absolutely brilliant Rated 5 out of 5 stars 07/15/25 Full Review Chris C It's a good show but it is one of those shows you need to actually watch to understand what is going on. Other shows you can miss a episode and watch recap and your caught up, not this show. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 07/14/25 Full Review D H Dune: Prophecy offers a character-driven exploration into the lore of the Dune universe, with standout performances and impressive visuals. However, its pacing and deviation from the cinematic grandeur of the films may not appeal to all viewers. Fans interested in the political and mystical origins of the Bene Gesserit may find it rewarding, while others might find it lacking in momentum. Outstanding performance from Emily Watson and Olivia Williams. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 07/11/25 Full Review Lee H I've watched all of the Dune movies, even the 1984 original. But Dune Prophecy is so much better than all of them. I understood the characters better and were much more likeable. Emily Watson and Travis Fimmel were wonderful as usual. I can't recommend this enough. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 07/04/25 Full Review Read all reviews
