What to Know

Critics Consensus

Grounded by reliably terrific performances from Emily Watson and Olivia Williams, Dune: Prophecy lacks the spice of Denis Villeneuve's films but compensates with addictively perilous palace intrigue.

Melanie McFarland Salon.com What matters most is the look and feel of it. The set design and especially the costumes are stunning. Nov 21, 2024 Full Review Sam Adams Slate The show’s writers have neglected to include any of the ordinary people whose lives might be affected by all this scheming and skullduggery, which also makes its consequences seem far less important. Nov 20, 2024 Full Review Roxana Hadadi New York Magazine/Vulture Dune: Prophecy’s derivativeness is both its greatest flaw and its most defining characteristic. Nov 20, 2024 Full Review Mini Anthikad-Chhibber The Hindu In the absence of a grand world-shifting saga, the sibilant palace intrigue keeps the interest, and then there is always the hope of the sandworms bursting in on future proceedings. Nov 21, 2024 Full Review Charles Pulliam-Moore The Verge Even though Prophecy sharpens Sisterhood of Dune’s story into a much stronger drama, the show still feels like supplementary reading that might not appeal if you aren’t deeply invested in the larger narrative. Nov 21, 2024 Full Review David Opie iNews.co.uk Ep 1 - Gorgeous production values and a focus on the stranger, even scary elements of the Herbert's world offer a different path into the Dune universe that more than justifies this series' existence. This is more than just a mere money-grabbing spinoff. Rated: 4/5 Nov 20, 2024 Full Review Read all reviews

Klara U After watching the first episode, the impression is clear: this is a disappointing, quick bake streamer interpretation of Dune, especially for someone who has read and admired the books for years. The timeline feels rushed and poorly researched, portraying a world just over a century after the machine war that looks far too advanced, skipping the dark age and gradual emergence of the Imperium, Sisterhood, and Mentats. The wedding scene and the girls’ school, with costumes and set design reminiscent of Netflix’s The Witcher, strip away the distinctiveness of Herbert’s universe. Lazy Easter eggs attempt to mimic iconic moments from the Dune films but feel forced and lack the same artistry, while cheap-looking sets and out-of-place scenes, like a bizarre nightclub sequence, further undermine the tone. Even mostly strong casting cannot save the show from inconsistent scripts and shallow storytelling. Rumors of a ghola storyline risk derailing Dune Messiah’s integrity, emphasizing shock value over thoughtful adaptation. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 11/21/24 Full Review Tommy H Could’ve been worse I guess. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 11/21/24 Full Review Eric M The writing is some of the worst I’ve ever experienced. I feel like I’m watching the witcher but in the Dune universe. Really disappointed and wouldn’t recommend to watch unless you’re having troubles falling asleep. This show is so bad it prompted me to write my first review on RT. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 11/21/24 Full Review No O Badly written cringe. It's the new Hollywood skin suit of Dune. The writers clearly do no understand how to make the story of Dune coherent and compelling and wander off into fanfiction and modern day Californian sensibilities Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 11/21/24 Full Review Keith R Thoroughly enjoyable watch. Probably not for people who have no knowledge of Dune and seems a fair bit of the people here hating on it are in that camp. Dune is weird political Sci-fi and I love it. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 11/21/24 Full Review C.S.R R Girlboss Central with nothing but Game of Thrones dialogue! Rated 2 out of 5 stars 11/21/24 Full Review Read all reviews
