Susan Granger SSG Syndicate Binge-worthy because of its timeliness with the eruption of Mt. Etna in Sicily, the plot of this Norwegian/Spanish disaster drama pivots on who will survive and who will perish. Rated: 6/10 Jun 9, 2025 Full Review Mini Anthikad-Chhibber The Hindu An angry volcano belching lava, the threat of a tsunami, a family caught in the ensuing mêlée, a traumatized diver, a researcher with survivor guilt, an official torn between family and duty, young love and superb visuals — it’s a match made in heaven May 17, 2025 Full Review James Delingpole The Spectator [The characters are] likeable and interesting and well-written enough for you to genuinely care whether or not they survive the big wave. Jan 30, 2025 Full Review Joel Keller Decider La Palma is fairly typical disaster fare, but a relatively small main cast and a lack of melodrama make the show worth a watch, especially because the season is only 4 episodes and just over 3 hours of runtime. Dec 24, 2024 Full Review Chris Joyce Movies and Munchies (YouTube) Character development is uneven and there are some unbelievable plot conveniences, but the stunning visuals, palpable moral dilemmas, and family dynamics work to offset the shortcomings so this isn’t a full-on storytelling disaster. Rated: 3/5 Dec 13, 2024 Full Review Archi Sengupta LeisureByte.com La Palma is enjoyable and binge-watch-worthy, making us watch a terrifying reality in an engaging way. Doug H The good: The episodes are pretty short and there are only four of them. The story is quite interesting, especially when it's centered around the volcano/earthquake/tsunami threats (yes, all three). The special effects are pretty good too. We were totally hooked for the first couple of episodes and eager to see how it played out. The bad: The acting is average at best. I assume they had to hire cheap actors to pay for the CGI effects. I honestly didn't care if any of them survived. The ugly: The last episode was ridiculous. Extraordinary coincidences, unbelievable decisions ("We've got 20 minutes to get to the airport or we'll all die. Let's pack!"), laughable plot twists. We were pulling for the tsunami. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 08/22/25 Full Review jacqui m Suspend your disbelief and sit back and enjoy this ridiculous story. Special effects and excellent acting save the day. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 08/20/25 Full Review Leandro G Tenía todo para hacer buena película. Cualquiera ese final Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 08/08/25 Full Review Joey D I stopped after the 2nd episode. despite the fact everyone is shown to have a very distinct character with struggles and every member of the family is seen having their own struggles especially- the autistic brother is just a emotionless stereotype, as an autistic person i hate the fact i can tell from a mile away they were just going to make him into a "problem child" and I was right- he's already being treated like a burden by the family and we get no thoughts from him as to how he feels about his family's problems. I was going to have hope that the character would be developed but I lost it all during the scene where the parents are openly fighting and his only reaction to walking in on his sister crying is "oh- I see I'm not supposed to say anything"- I had to drop the series because I just can't with this type of rep. If the show is good at the end, idc, i rather watch a show with no autistic rep at all then watch something that shows it didn't have one autistic person in the writing room. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 08/08/25 Full Review sachleen k Its the most illogical series one can imagine Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 08/05/25 Full Review Pedro D I actually liked the storyline and the general premise of La Palma, but I was really disappointed with the execution. The lead actress’s performance felt flat and unconvincing, which made it harder to stay invested. What bothered me the most, though, were the major plot holes. The biggest one: a massive tsunami hitting a plane, and yet somehow there are survivors? That’s simply unforgivable. On top of that, there are several smaller inconsistencies throughout the season. While they might seem minor individually, together they add up—especially because of how poorly the ending ties everything together. It’s not exactly a waste of time to watch, but the finale turns it into a huge disappointment and almost ruins the whole experience. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 08/02/25 Full Review Read all reviews
