Well into the second generation of a grand televangelist tradition, the world-famous Gemstone family is living proof that worship pays dividends in all sizes. Patriarch Eli, the man most responsible for the tremendous success of the family's megachurch, is in mourning over the loss of his wife. Jesse, the eldest of the three grown Gemstone siblings, looks to lead in his father's footsteps, but finds his past sins jeopardizing the family ministry. Next in line comes middle sister Judy, who secretly lives with her fiancé and dreams of escaping the Gemstone compound. Rounding out the dysfunctional trio is pseudo-hipster Kelvin, the youngest of the preachers and a thorn in Jesse's side. As the family battles numerous threats to their renowned religious empire, they continue to spread the good word... and make a solid buck doing so.

Not a great final season. It followed the previous seasons' set-up of introducing new tangential family members and revealing more history, but nothing about Eli's new romance brought any kind of cohesive conclusion to the characters. All that would be forgivable if it was still funny but it took a lot of its plot deadly seriously.

Phenomenal final season to a show I enjoyed but didn't love until the very end. Since I couldn't relate to the characters directly, it took me a little bit of time to get "attached". After four seasons, I could see the character development the directors were going for. It was less about changing oneself, but more about learning to love, accept and accommodate those around you as they are. It's a key example of achieving one's dreams by making the dreams of those around you a reality. It took the weirdest twists and turns, and a very refreshing deviation from the norm. My favorite moment was when the three of them were lying on the floor, bleeding out, on their potential deathbeds, yet they were still able to quarrel about silly terminology. True sibling love. Some endings are bittersweet, but this one was just sweet. The only thing I would have loved is a slight expansion of the golden bible. Feels like there a stone left unturned.
