Jae-Ha Kim Jae-Ha Kim (Substack) Well written and terrifically acted, "The Uncanny Counter" is suspenseful and heartwarming. And in a rarity for Korean dramas, there is no second lead syndrome romance to mess with the plot. Rated: 3/4 Jul 27, 2023 Full Review Pierce Conran South China Morning Post The Uncanny Counter captured our imaginations from the get-go. But as with many things in life, success is all about sticking the landing. Rated: 3.5/5 Feb 15, 2022 Full Review Joel Keller Decider A fine, light sci-fi series that will help you take your mind off heavier dramas from here or formulaic dramas from overseas. Amy P I love this show!!!!! I'm a huge fan of many of the korean shows and movies. This is one of my favorites. Stoked after a comic makes it even better. The writer of the Web Com is also the director of the series. It's funny, sad showing familial bonding along with tragedy. The superhero side is also a penny to love the series. Shows how people deal in stressful situations and in other situations as well. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 09/22/24 Full Review 29 A Absolutely loved it!! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 07/13/24 Full Review Audience Member This series somehow mixes drama with comedy and I like it. Sometimes main characters make stupid mistakes like not using their superpowers in most suitable situations for them. But overall I like how they present the narative and their sense of humor overall. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 06/17/24 Full Review p.r. p I really enjoyed this series in the first season but not season two. I feel badly that they seem to give up on the Korean sensibility of demons who were things with something to accomplish a purpose even. They now have subscribed to the American brutal mindless violence with no purpose except hurting, killing, taking and running bloody into the dark. It was really hard to watch the fear mongering and the inability to come up with any other solution than bigger violence bigger guns. Banging around in nowheresville. Everybody seemed to be incompetent and just kept whining what are we gonna do? Scary powerful bad guys and frightened loser nobodies, with only themselves running around with nuthin' behind them except some weirdos in stupid white costumes sitting around saying I dunno, and then I dunno? Magic wands nobody charged and then forgot to bring anyway. No charm, no respect for the unknown, no resources. Just american beatings and running screaming, weeping. A misuse of good actors, no kindness or gentle fun and problem solving. Hotel del Luna. Alchemy of Souls, these put the likes of the Uncanny Counter to shame. These to me are good examples of enjoyable Korean series, they fight and lose and cry and love and overcome hard times. They don't just run screaming into walls and fall down bloody and lots of fog. On the other hand Beyond Evil, and Move to Heaven were excellent in other ways of say daily life stories. I am willing to put up with any amount of cultural tropes for great plotting, acting, sets, costumes and just plain class entertainment. Forget the merican adolescent screenwriters already you don't need them. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 09/05/23 Full Review Cookie M All around enjoyable watch! Characters relate to eachother, story plot bad vs good, nicely done Rated 5 out of 5 stars 09/03/23 Full Review Oliver N I'm watching this at the moment, aug23, it's very good, I don't mind watching subtitles if the film keeps you engaged, this certainly does that!
