Emerald Fennell
British actress and writer Emerald Fennell became a fixture both in front of and behind the camera in her native land. Born in London, she first gained notice while acting in plays while attending Oxford. She began appearing in small roles on television on shows like "Trial & Retribution" (ITV, 1997-2009), as well as the miniseries "Any Human Heart" (Channel 4, 2010). Her break came when she was cast alongside Simon Bird and Joe Thomas in the WWI set sitcom "Chickens" (Channel 4, 2011-13). She began branching out into film as well, appearing in Keira Knightley's "Anna Karenina" (2012) and with Eddie Redmayne and Alicia Vikander in "The Danish Girl" (2015). Her acting profile jumped considerably when she joined the popular drama "Call the Midwife" (BBC, 2012-) playing Nurse Patsy Mount. The character gained attention for being in a same-sex relationship despite the show's conservative 1960s setting. An English major in college, she also began publishing children's literature in 2013 with the release of her first book "Shiverton Hall" (Bloomsbury, 2013). She began using those skills, likewise, within television, working as a writer for the 20-something comedy "Drifters" (E4, 2013-16). After leaving "Midwife," her schedule became even busier. She was tapped to take over for creator Phoebe Waller-Bridge as the head writer of the hit thriller "Killing Eve" (BBC America, 2018-). She joined the cast of "The Crown" (Netflix, 2016-) as Camilla Parker-Bowles opposite Josh O'Connor's young Prince Charles. Fennell then wrote and directed the feminist thriller "Promising Young Woman" (2020) starring Carey Mulligan and Laverne Cox.
