Critics Consensus

A lighter, brighter superhero movie powered by the effortless charisma of Paul Rudd and Evangeline Lilly, Ant-Man and The Wasp offers a much-needed MCU palate cleanser.

Bob Mondello NPR Director Peyton Reed and his army of screenwriters haven't made "Ant-Man And The Wasp" a terribly clever movie, but it's clever enough to keep you from reaching for bug spray. And in the summer, Marvel has apparently decided that's all that's required. Jan 27, 2020 Full Review Oliver Jones Observer If the previous film was a bubbly champagne cocktail of a superhero movie, its sequel is something flatter and more concussive-akin to a series of vodka shots. Bottom line though, as long Paul Rudd is invited, it's still a party. Rated: 3/4 Sep 7, 2018 Full Review Robert Daniels 812filmreviews In "short," it's a pretty good time! Rated: 2.5/4 Aug 27, 2018 Full Review Cory Woodroof For the Win (USA Today) It’s not bad... Feb 27, 2024 Full Review Lachmi Deb Roy Firstpost Unlike other Marvel Movies, Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania is a senseless movie except for Paul Rudd's performance which is closer to reality and teaches you some good life lessons. Sep 26, 2023 Full Review Manuel São Bento MSB Reviews While it has a fabulous casting and some phenomenal action sequences, it ultimately fails in giving the audience a decent plot with suitable antagonists. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 10/01/21 Full Review Michael Good. But the first Ant-Man was better. But that after credits cliffhanger is a dosey! ✌🏾✌🏾 Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 07/10/21 Full Review Ash P A sequel to Ant-Man, we also include Wasp herself. I can say this isn't the first movie, but it's still a great watch with some creativity despite some rough arts that rub me the wrong way. In this one, Scott Lang, played again by Paul Rudd, is under house arrest after the events of Captain America: Civil War and violating the laws of the Sokovia Accords. One day, he gets a vision of Janet van Dyne, played by Michelle Pfiffer, and calls Hank Pym, played again by Michael Douglas, about it. It sparks him and his daughter, Hope, played again by Evangeline Lilly, an idea. Making a device that can reach into the Quantum Realm. However, a villain known as Ghost, or Ava Starr, played by Hannah John-Kamen, comes into the fray as Hope is dealing with a black market businessman, played by Walton Goggins, and stole the laboratory that Hank and Hope operate in secret from the FBI. Which speaking of Hank and Hope are also on the run from the FBI due to the violating the Sokovia Accords. It is a lot to take in after giving you the synopsis, but I will say, it's interesting. For example, seeing Scott, Hank, and Hope find a way to get their miniature lab back from Ghost, who has plans of her own. I also find the backstory and goal for her to be interesting even when I don't know much about her. Afterward, I was actually invested. Having a selfish motive while also a selfless goal since an event involving S.H.I.E.L.D. that took her parents while also affecting her. Even liked how the results turned out without spoiling too much. Lawrence Fishburne is also in this, and his role was well developed without spoiling anything revolving his character, as Bill Foster who worked alongside Hank. If anything I would say that felt unneeded, it had to be the scenes that does drag on like the whole truth serum sequence with Scott's friends over at X-CON, get the joke, by the way? Also, I did get a little miffed when there was an important set of explanations, and suddenly, the phone rings and it was a family matter for Scott. I still like the family, even for their brief time, but some parts shouldn't be in whatever scenes are important, such as what I'd mentioned. I know this next part might get me in trouble, but I think the subplot with X-CON wasn't necessary. I get why they're there, yet I can honestly say that it wasn't needed as well as the trio of friends who are starting to rub off on me. Especially some of the jokes that had me cringe a little. Some of the other jokes gave me a good laugh. I still enjoyed the shrinking and growing effects as well as the action that revolves around them. Even at times with Ghost's phasing abilities. I know there wasn't too much on the chemistry between Scott and Hope, but I already figured that they would get together since the end of Ant-Man and during their short time during Captain American: Civil War. Still, you could believe that they are meant for each other whenever they do their operations together, whether fighting against Ghost, sneaking into the school to get something from Scott's little trophy, that car chase near the end, and when they calculate on their goal to get Hope's mother back from the Quantum Realm. Speaking of the sequence involving Hank diving in was trippy that I enjoyed the journey. Next movie that involves it is another story, though. Yes, expect that review in the future. This isn't up there with Ant-Man. However, it's worth a watch if Ant-Man and/or Wasp are your favorite heroes. Despite some flaws, it's enjoyable for me. I give this film seven Ghost casually phasing through walls, chasing Scott out of ten. 7/10. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 05/02/25 Full Review Read all reviews
