Critics Consensus

A lighter, brighter superhero movie powered by the effortless charisma of Paul Rudd and Evangeline Lilly, Ant-Man and The Wasp offers a much-needed MCU palate cleanser.

Bob Mondello NPR Director Peyton Reed and his army of screenwriters haven't made "Ant-Man And The Wasp" a terribly clever movie, but it's clever enough to keep you from reaching for bug spray. And in the summer, Marvel has apparently decided that's all that's required. Jan 27, 2020 Full Review Oliver Jones Observer If the previous film was a bubbly champagne cocktail of a superhero movie, its sequel is something flatter and more concussive-akin to a series of vodka shots. Bottom line though, as long Paul Rudd is invited, it's still a party. Rated: 3/4 Sep 7, 2018 Full Review Robert Daniels 812filmreviews In "short," it's a pretty good time! Rated: 2.5/4 Aug 27, 2018 Full Review Cory Woodroof For the Win (USA Today) It’s not bad... Feb 27, 2024 Full Review Lachmi Deb Roy Firstpost Unlike other Marvel Movies, Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania is a senseless movie except for Paul Rudd's performance which is closer to reality and teaches you some good life lessons. Sep 26, 2023 Full Review Manuel São Bento MSB Reviews While it has a fabulous casting and some phenomenal action sequences, it ultimately fails in giving the audience a decent plot with suitable antagonists. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 10/01/21 Full Review Michael Good. But the first Ant-Man was better. But that after credits cliffhanger is a dosey! ✌🏾✌🏾 Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 07/10/21 Full Review Infinityfights 6 Con decirte que se me olvidó el nombre de la villana y la trama al dia de verla, es olvidable ni buena o mala, solo olvidable Rated 1 out of 5 stars 01/11/25 Full Review Samuel W An irredeemable antagonist being redeemed, another antagonist you’re supposed to feel sorry for, an antagonist whose only battle seemed to be fast-talker Luis, and another antagonist who was one of the best characters in the movie and got the LEAST amount of screentime of them all. This movie is an absolute mess and ventures from the lowest points to the highest reaches, but it still maintains a fun, quirky story that Ant-Man is good at. Let’s start with the characters, who are the best part of the film completely and utterly. Jimmy Woo, played by the wonderful Randall Park, Cassie Lang, Walton Goggins’ character (who I still don’t remember the name of), Scott, and Janet van Dyne, were all the best parts of the movie. However, Scott is the only one of these with actual, serious runtime throughout the film. Walton Goggins and Randall Park’s characters are supposed to be secondary antagonists that ground Scott to his old crime-adventures, yet Walton Goggins character is completely wasted by following around Luis and getting scared and used by the main antagonist, Ghost, multiple times. No offense to the woman playing Ghost, I would rather have seen Walton Goggins as the main antagonist, as he was far more interesting even with NO powers. Janet van Dyne is arguably the main focus of the movie, and though I would have liked to see more with her, I honestly could not tell you how they would do that. Michelle Pfeiffer and Marvel handled her role wonderfully, though she has many quirks about her that go unquestioned. Cassie should have had more screentime, as I felt this movie was leaning into the family aspect hard, and it would have been great to see young Cassie go on a fun, exciting adventure with her Dad before she grew to who she was in movies like Avengers: Endgame. Luis was great as usual, but his only addition to the movie felt a little forced as I felt like he didn’t actually do a whole lot to help, which I think he hindered more than anything else. The plot itself is good, but it is undercut SEVERELY by the two main antagonists of the film, who both are irredeemable, terrible people who threatened the main characters. *SPOILER ALERT* One who didn’t even care about the consequences of her actions and nearly killed an innocent woman who only wanted to come home after thirty years of being lost to a severely dangerous place that was making the antagonist WHO DID THIS ACTION suffer! However, in the end, we are supposed to love her and feel sorry for her, and because the woman she did this to, Janet, forgives her immediately because she feels her pain? It is severely forced and it does not make any sense, and this movie seems to have been forced into the continuity so it can be a buffer between Infinity War and Endgame, and so they can introduce the Quantum Truck and Ant-Man to Avengers: Endgame when that time comes. This is seriously such an overrated movie and the only thing honestly saving this movie at all from being a boring, hot pile of garbage is the amazing actors who granted amazing characters in this film. If it were anyone else playing these characters, I think this would go down in Marvel history as a horrible movie. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 01/01/25 Full Review Read all reviews
