See more DanTheMan 2 3d Arriving a full 9 years on from Doctor Who's last televised spin-off, The War Between the Land and the Sea finally makes up for lost time. Visually, the production is serviceable but equally inconsistent, some sequences effectively convey scale and menace, directed adequately enough by Dylan Holmes Williams; others suffer from lacklustre CGI, laughable staging and Lorne Balfe's overly dramatic scoring, loved the Heroes needle drop though. I got strong Children of Earth vibes throughout, almost as if there was a conscious effort to replicate what made that series so good. However, it lacks the big emotional hook, mature tone and Euros Lyn's impeccable direction of that monumental miniseries. As harsh as it may sound I'm being, The War Between the Land and the Sea is very well-intentioned, timely and conceptually strong while being genuinely great at the same time, reframing the classic Sea Devil mythology through a modern ecological lens. See more Austin T @JustanAverageJoe Jan 7 The concept is great, and the first episodes or two are fairly well done, but it falls apart quickly. The main character, Barclay, cries in every episode. He is weak and emotionally fragile and not a character I want to like. I should want to like him, but I do not. The show falls for the same low-budget tiny-mind tropes as many of these types of shows do. The highest ranking and most important people involved are easy to get to and have no protection. The group which should be running the show has only a small contingent (5/6?) of people who all stand around the same workstations like they are the only people who can figure anything out. It could have been done better. The Aqua Kind people could have have inflicted more damage. There could be a submarine lost, a nuclear weapon detonated, or redirected to land and detonated, and yet they chose a weaker story line. Make Barclay mentally stronger and you have a better show. See more Peter W @PeterW1337 Jan 3 Throughly enjoyed watching this, the last episode was alittle underwhelming and the whole thing was really on the nose with it's parallels to real life issues, not that that's a terrible thing animal farm is on the nose and highly regarded.
