Francois Truffaut Arts (France) A bad American film goes over better than a bad French film. King Richard and the Crusaders confirms this. A childish scenario, simplistic dialogues. Who cares, since the rhythm does not falter, since the color is gay and the scenario correct? May 6, 2022 Full Review Clyde Gilmour Maclean's Magazine Sharp widescreen photography and clever use of stereophonic sound help to atone for the frenzied music and some silly overacting in a CinemaScope item adapted from Sir Walter Scott's novel. ashley h King Richard and the Crusaders is a disappointing film. It is about King Richard Lionheart battles treachery in his own camp while leading the third crusade. Rex Harrison and Virginia Mayo gave terrible performances. The screenplay is badly written. David Butler did a terrible job directing this movie. I was not impressed with this motion picture. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member At times laughable Crusades drama. Harvey and Virginia Mayo in particular seem to be playing to the back balcony. Beautiful color and high production values help but this is definitely not a lost classic. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 02/27/23 Full Review Audience Member very campy sword n sandal pic Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 01/21/23 Full Review Audience Member Medieval shenanigans that are entertaining enough in the classic Hollywood style. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 02/06/23 Full Review Audience Member Talk, talk, talk and little action. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 02/27/23 Full Review Audience Member campy costume drama fun.
