Genera+ion — Season 1

What to Know

Critics Consensus

Genera+ion's salacious flourishes can feel more try-hard than authentic, but this inclusive portrayal of Gen Z shines when it identifies the universal pains of being a teenager.

Wenlei Ma News.com.au Adolescence isn't dour 100 per cent of the time, and Generation serves itself well remembering that. Mar 19, 2021 Full Review Drew Gregory Autostraddle There is writing that may continue to feel forced or settle as the show trusts its talented cast. But regardless of where the show goes there's plenty here to entertain - especially for a couple of gay 6th graders to gossip about via Snapchat. Mar 18, 2021 Full Review Kyle Fowle Entertainment Weekly It feels like the show is rolling out big moments while ignoring more subtle, inward-looking opportunities, and steering clear of any real dive into what's motivating these teens and how they're really feeling. Mar 16, 2021 Full Review Michael Cuby them. Genera+ion offers a refreshing take on what adolescents of today actually look like. Sep 27, 2022 Full Review Rich Juzwiak Jezebel Genera+ion is terrible. Oh god is it bad. It is meandering and smug and sketched in the broadest possible lines so that its characters do not do much beyond showing up to represent their assigned identities, like dead-eyed quota fulfillments. Apr 1, 2021 Full Review Fletcher Peters Paste Magazine If you're looking for a show with serious discussions about Gen-Z and the dilemmas of our youth, skip Genera+ion. But if, like me, you just want to unwind with a silly show that'll soothe your mind into a steady lull, check out this zany HBO dramedy. Mar 22, 2021 Full Review Read all reviews

Rated 5 out of 5 stars 07/11/25 Full Review Rosaline H It was definitely a good show and a good relresentation of what many teens go through(as a teen). It shows the emotions clear and in a dramatic way to keep you entertained. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/09/25 Full Review Audience Member It was funny, amazing I liked how it had different point of views amazing! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review Audience Member literally amazing. Generation is a show that teenagers should be watching (I'm a teen) There is so much diversity with these characters. This has to be easily the queerest show on Tv and I'm here for it. So colourful, lighthearted and funny. The drama and how messy these characters are is great too.. I loved most of the characters tbh. Everything about this show is amazing and it's a shame HBO cancelled this show. At least we got 16 episodes and not just another 6-8 episodes season like we always get with these teen drama shows. I highly recommend watching. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review Audience Member the best show i've ever seen i'm not even joking Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review Audience Member this is the most refreshing tv series i have ever watched. it really mirrors how queer teenagers are experiencing and i liked how everyone got their own POVs. its doesn't only focus on few characters, the creators of this show made the delivery of every character's story very smooth. i am hoping that this show will be renewed for another season. everything about the characters are very relatable it HURTS!! i hope that riley and greta end up together because they deserve it, i hope that they will work it out. it is really a show for teenagers, especially queer people, everything about it seems relatable and real. the actors are all great and i think they really really deserve another season so pls HBO i beg of u. i also loved how they portrayed their own characters and how they gave life to it. also the queer representations were great 100%. anyways, watch it if you haven't you won't regret it. #RENEWGENERATION Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review Read all reviews
