Kaspar Heidelbach

German director Kaspar Heidelbach has been directing television series since the 1980s. He studied television and film at college in Cologne and quickly nabbed directorial jobs on German television productions, and specialized in crime dramas. He directed eight episodes of the private detective crime series "A Case for Two" and then went on to direct episodes of the award winning police action series "Wolff's Turf." Heidelbach jumped into directing television movies and worked with actor Klaus J. Behrendt on two films in 1993. Behrendt starred as a lovelorn office worker who gets in the middle of shady criminal activity in "Leo and Charlotte," and then as an insurance agent who dives into the Polish mafia to rescue his brother in "Polski Crash." In 1995, Heidelbach diverged from working on crime sets and directed episodes of the controversial soap opera "Lindenstraße." The show covered unconventional subjects such as homosexuality, rape, and xenophobia. The director continued directing TV crime thrillers throughout the mid-1990s, but switched gears once again to work on "A Light in Dark Places," a docudrama about a group of German miners who got trapped in a shaft. The TV special won awards from the Adolf Grimme and Bavarian TV awards for Best Miniseries. Heidelbach's first major motion picture was directing "Berlin 36," a film about a Jewish high jumper trying to be apart of the 1936 German Olympic team.
