Carin C. Tietze

More well-known in Germany than in her native United States, multilingual actress Carin C. Tietze was born in Denver, Colorado in 1964. After studying drama at the Neighborhood Playhouse School of the Theatre in New York City, Tietze headed for Europe and began appearing in such diverse projects as the Austria-filmed English language drama "Silence Like Glass" with Jami Gertz and Martha Plimpton, the 1991 French-German co-production "Les aventuriers du Rio Verde," and the Swiss feature "Auf der Suche nach Salome." Gaining her first recurring television role in 1990 on the popular series "Derrick," the actress went on to land more substantial roles in "Der Bergdoktor" in 1993 and "Unser Lehrer Doktor Specht" in 1996. During this time, she also began doing voice work, lending her voice to the dubbed German versions of American and British films. Juliette Binoche in "The English Patient," the White Witch in "The Chronicles of Narnia," and Joan Cusack in the "Toy Story" franchise are just a few of the voice roles for which she is known in Germany. Not content merely with voice acting, Tietze also pursued meatier television roles in the 2000s, landing parts in the well-known series "Tatort" and "Der Alte," and the 2011 crime drama "Heiter bis tödlich - Hubert und Staller." She and her husband, writer and director Florian Richter, reside on Lake Starnberg in Bavaria.
