Fabienne Godet
Fabienne Godet is a filmmaker who does not flinch away from portraying the dark side of society. However society, with a slight dash of irony, has honored her diligent attempts to do just that: her 2009 documentary "My Greatest Escape" (2009) was nominated for a César award, the highest honor in French film, while she won a "Golden Goblet" for Best Director at the Shanghai International Film Festival for her 2005 drama "Sauf le respect que je vous dois," a psychological thriller about the pressures of the workplace. Godet's output has been minimal but varied. She began by writing and directing shorts, the most prominent of which was the drama "Temptation of Innocence" (1999). "Sauf le respect que je vous dois," which stars Olivier Gourmet and Marion Cotillard, is Godet's only feature-length narrative film, and quite possibly her most personal, as she based the story upon her own experiences of professional harassment. "My Greatest Escape," on the other hand, is a feature-length documentary about Michel Vaujour, a former convict who undergoes a profound transformation before the lens of Godet's camera. What unites her different projects, ultimately, is a potent awareness of the injustice in the world, as well as the conviction that cinema can expose it.
