Gavin Free
Born in 1986 in Thame, Oxfordshire, UK, Gavin Free's enthusiasm for new technology was avid and intense. At the age of 18 he joined the first European production company to use Phantom digital high-speed cameras to capture slow motion. Free was a data technician and operator, working on music videos from bands like U2 and The Chemical Brothers. In 2009, he was hired by the production company Rooster Teeth to direct the seventh season of its groundbreaking series "Red vs. Blue" (2003-), a comedic series with actors inhabiting characters from the game "Halo." In 2010 Free crated "The Slow Mo Guys" along with his friend Daniel Gruchy. The premise of the channel was to show Free and Gruchy experiment with destroying something (lighters, televisions, cars) in varied ways (burning, smashing, blowing up) and filming the destruction at extremely high frame rates, resulting in super slow motion footage. In 2013, Free again began collaborating with Rooster Teeth, testing video game concepts in real life on the show "Immersion," then appearing in others including "Million Dollars, But ," and eventually becoming a creative director at the production company in 2015. In 2016, Rooster Teeth released its first feature film, "Lazer Team" (2016). Free played Woody, one of the lead characters.
