Gertrude Lawrence
British by birth, Gertrude Lawrence built her entertainment career as an actress in many successful Hollywood movies. Lawrence began her career with a role in "The Battle of Paris" (1929). Later, she acted in "Stage Door Canteen" (1943) with Cheryl Walker and the Jane Wyman dramatic adaptation "The Glass Menagerie" (1950). Lawrence's music was most recently featured in "You're the Top: The Cole Porter Story" (PBS, 1989-1990). Lawrence's husband was Richard Aldrich. Lawrence passed away in September 1952 at the age of 54.
