Hannes Jaenicke

One of the most well-known German actors in Europe and across the Atlantic as well, Hannes Jaenicke boasts a career that spans the decades. The son of actress Agatha Calvelli-Adorno, Jaenicke was born in Germany but spent several years living in Pittsburgh as a child. After graduating from the Max Reinhardt Seminar in Vienna, he began appearing in German films and television series, most notably the highly regarded 1986 miniseries "Väter und Söhne - Eine deutsche Tragödie," starring Julie Christie. Acting steadily through the late 1980s and 1990s, Jaenicke slowly ascended the ladder of fame with his work in such German television series as "Die Strassen von Berlin" and "Sardsch," and the American series "Due South." A recurring role as Bert Myers in "Highlander: The Raven" brought Jaenicke more attention in the States, and soon he was appearing in such films as the 1999 Eric Roberts vehicle "Restraining Order" and the acclaimed 1997 action-comedy "Knockin' on Heaven's Door." The dawn of the 21st century found Jaenicke more in demand than ever--working on the feature "Blast" with Eddie Griffin and the TV series "Post Mortem/b among other high-profile projects--but also devoting a large portion of his time to protecting the environment and animals, and producing a series of documentaries on endangered species.
