Jean-Marc Bory
Swiss actor Jean-Marc Bory worked as a leading man in French feature films, theater, and television. He is arguably most well-known internationally for his role opposite Jeanne Moreau in Louis Malle's controversial 1958 film, "The Lovers." The film, which pushed the boundaries with its sexual content, was a success worldwide and made a star out of Moreau and Malle. But Bory's celebrity was short-lived despite the attention he garnered because of the film. Bory worked consistently throughout the 1960s, including landing a supporting part in Abel Gance's historical epic "The Battle of Austerlitz"; starring in the New Wave romantic comedy, "Adorable mentuse"; playing the jilted boyfriend of Bridget Bardot in Roger Vadim's "Love on a Pillow"; co-starring alongside Catherine Denueve in "Vacances Portugaises"; and featuring in the Jean-Luc Godard directed segment in the anthology film,"RoGoPaG." He also played Marquis De St Evremonde in the four-part 1989 Masterpiece Theater production of "A Tale of Two Cities." In addition to his consistent workload in films and television over the decades, Bory was a notable stage performer as well: he worked with the celebrated director Eric Rohmer on "Catherine de Heilbronn," and he also directed the Mozart opera "Lucio Silla" in February 2001.
