John Melendez (better known as "Stuttering John") first rose to fame by serving as one of Howard Stern's on-air radio personalities. Melendez found his niche on the show in the mid-'90s by usually serving as Stern's whipping boy, and conducting unusual interviews with A-list celebrities at red carpet events. Using his stutter as a tool of endearment, Melendez was able to ask celebrities bizarre and uncomfortable questions that often provided Stern's listeners with entertaining sound bites. After "The Howard Stern Show" gained national television viewership in the late 1990s, the exposure helped Melendez's career began to take off. He began appearing as a character actor in films like "Dude, Where's My Car?" in the early 2000s, then earned a voice-acting role on the series "Tripping the Rift." In 2004, after correcting his stutter with speech therapy, Melendez was offered the role of Jay Leno's announcer on "The Tonight Show." He made his debut on the program on March 29, 2004, but the two comedians lacked on-camera chemistry. In 2009, when Leno moved into a primetime slot, Melendez turned to an off-camera role as one of the writers on the newly formed "The Jay Leno Show." He remained with Leno during the discrepancy involving Conan O'Brien, and continued to serve as a writer when Leno infamously reclaimed his "Tonight Show" host position in 2010. Aside from writing and radio, Melendez served as the executive producer and starred in, the comedy film "One, Two, Many" in 2008.
