A dynamic singer, songwriter and stage performer, Keith Urban embodied the country music superstar. He launched his music career in his native Australia, but it was in Nashville where the singer catapulted to fame. He topped the country charts with the singles "But for the Grace of God" (2000), "Somebody Like You" (2002), and "Who Wouldn't Wanna Be Me?" (2003), and captivated fans with his energetic, guitar-driven live performances. Urban's country swagger and heartfelt lyrics turned him into one of the genre's most eligible heartthrobs, until he fell in love and married Oscar-winning actress Nicole Kidman in 2006. Battling drug and alcohol addiction for several years, Urban credited Kidman for standing by his side during his most difficult years and subsequent recovery. The Grammy-winning singer made a triumphant return to music with the chart-topping 2009 album Defying Gravity, then joined the judges' panel for the 12th season of "American Idol" (Fox, 2002-16), establishing Urban not only as a successful crossover artist, but also as an influential force in the mainstream entertainment industry.
