Alan Sepinwall What's Alan Watching? (Ghost.io) It's clear that Raiff is a film guy coming to TV, in ways good and frustrating... But the way he portrays the passage of time, and how he lets the show's different eras bleed into one another is absorbing and lovely. Oct 18, 2025 Full Review Clint Worthington RogerEbert.com [There’s] evidence enough that there’s a solid three-star movie’s worth of concept here, rather than stretching it out to a loose, thin five-hour television series. Oct 18, 2025 Full Review Craig Mathieson The Age (Australia) Hal and Harper is a show that is deeply attuned to emotional upheaval overwhelming the everyday. Rated: 4/5 Aug 18, 2025 Full Review Stephen A. Russell Flicks (AU, NZ, UK) Together, Reinhart and Raiff hook us into Hal & Harper’s lilting rhythm ... Raiff’s unafraid of asking us to sit tight in the show’s engaging relationship beats, allowing them room to really breathe. Jun 24, 2025 Full Review Preston Barta Denton Record-Chronicle [Cooper Raiff’s 'Hal & Harper'] is poised to break hearts and mend them simultaneously. It’s a powerful reminder that even amidst the chaos of life, there exists a stillness—a profound love that binds us all together. Feb 9, 2025 Full Review Peter Gray The AU Review Despite the fact that Hal & Harper is playing with material that could have given way to a filmic format, there’s a true episodic nature to the way this show presents its narrative. Amarachukwu K Everything about this series was incredibly realistic, from the characters’ emotions to the silent battles they faced. What stood out to me the most was the way trauma was portrayed—not as something dramatic or over-exaggerated, but as something quiet, deeply rooted, and often unnoticed. The characters carried emotional scars without even realizing it, and that, in itself, was both heartbreaking and remarkably authentic. It’s not every day that a show captures the weight of unspoken pain with such subtlety and care. What makes this series truly special is how it reflects real life—how children observe and absorb everything around them, even the things adults believe go unnoticed. It emphasizes that trauma isn’t always loud; sometimes it’s passed down through silence, body language, and the unhealed wounds of previous generations. Watching it unfold was not only gripping but also deeply thought-provoking. It reminds us that our past shapes us more than we know—and that healing often begins with recognition. I highly recommend taking the time to sit down and watch this series, especially if you’re a parent or someone who works closely with children. It serves as a powerful reminder that your actions, even the smallest ones, speak volumes. Children might not always understand your words, but they feel your energy, see your reactions, and mirror your behavior. This series urges us to reflect on the impact we leave behind, intentionally or not. It’s not just entertainment—it’s an emotional mirror, a wake-up call, and a beautifully told story about family, pain, love, and growth. Don’t rush through it. Let each episode sit with you. Feel it. Learn from it. And maybe, start a conversation that helps break the cycle. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 08/05/25 Full Review Christa G Heart-wrenching & Hilarious Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/02/25 Full Review Me L Definitely wished we had more time than 12 hours to watch it bc it's a heavy watch that felt a Bit stretched at some points. I was really afraid that the concept of these actors playing their younger selves would be weird but it felt natural and fun and was actually my favorite part. The dynamic between Cooper and Lili was great and their relationship on screen was amazing. The Show Took a brave step to potray the heavy topic of grief and the cast gave their all. The characters feel like Real humans. Harper is messy and lost and Hal a Bit childish and alone, together they Form a very real sibling dynamic. It feels refreshing to see these flawed characters in a Story about a topic that isnt usally portrait as heavy as it was in the Show. For that alone, they deserve to get a buyer for this. Its easy to relate to this Story. The acting was fantastic. Both cooper and lili do a amazing job playing their younger selves, it sells the Story for me and brings you to a very emotional Story arc. Lili has the heaviest part, her character carries the pain of everyone around her and god. Its time that people get to see her Talent on screen again. One Look of her shows everything that goes through the characters head. She belongs in this Industry. One scene in the final gave me chills and made my heart ache for her. Hope this get picked up soon. The cast and everyone involved deserves it. And everyone else deserves to watch this. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/02/25 Full Review B B This was my favorite Sundance watch so far this year! Excellent performances all around. Cooper you are a genius. I did not expect to openly sob at least twice but here we are. Highly recommend! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/31/25 Full Review Max W Watching through tears and laughter. It was raw and real and oh so emotional. The performances are top notch. It doesn’t get better. Give Lili Reinhart her flowers. Thank Cooper Raiff for bringing this group of people together and creating something so special. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/31/25 Full Review M L Wow, what a show!
